Farewell to Love: The CEO's Desperate Chase novel Chapter 143

Ever since she lost the baby after falling down the stairs, Emilia's health had never fully recovered.

Now, with the cold wind biting at her after too much wine, she felt her strength slipping away again.

A fresh wave of dizziness hit her, making it nearly impossible to stand. She knew she couldn't stay here any longer.

She reached out, pushing against Tyler in a feeble attempt to make him let go. But she didn't realize how unsteady she'd become.

"Emilia?" Tyler's brows drew together in concern.

She didn't answer.

He stepped forward and, without warning, swept her up in his arms.

Her feet left the ground, and she tried to push him away, but her hands were too weak to do anything more than rest limply against his chest.

"You've been drinking," Tyler said, his voice low and rumbling in his chest.

"Put me down." Emilia's words were slurred.

Tyler ignored her. He took her heels from her hand and carried her toward the house.

The winding path through the trees felt endless. Emilia swayed in his arms, her hazy gaze catching the moonlight spilling through the branches above.

The silvery light danced across Tyler's shoulders, and for a moment she couldn't tell if she was in the present or lost in a memory.

She really was drunk.

When they reached the house, Tyler pressed his thumb to the door's fingerprint scanner and stepped inside. At the entryway, he gently set her down.

He watched as she leaned against the wall for support, then closed the door behind them.

She was still crying. Watching her, Tyler felt his heart ache.

When he had picked her up just now, he realized she was much lighter than before.

Not just a little—she'd lost a lot of weight.

She'd always been slim, but now she seemed even smaller, fragile in a way that made him worry.

"You've had too much to drink. Are you really planning to go home like this?" Tyler asked quietly.

It wasn't safe.

"I don't need your help." Her voice was muffled, thick with tears.

Tyler sighed, exasperated.

"It's nearly impossible to get a cab out here by Lunar Manor. How do you expect to leave—walk?" he pressed, trying to reason with her.
