Tyler's kisses trailed lower, his hands guiding Emilia as he pressed his lips to the small birthmark just above her heart.

That's when he heard her voice—soft, trembling.

"I don't want this," she said.

He didn't stop.

"Are you going to force me?" She pushed at him, her hands tangled in his hair, trying to keep him at bay.

He hesitated for a moment, but he couldn't bring himself to let go.

"Emily, what happened with Cerulion was an accident. We can try for another child," he murmured.

Heat surged through him, his body tense with longing, and he clung to her desperately.

"If that's what you want, go to Vivienne," she replied, her voice heavy with hurt. "You two have been together all this time, haven't you? I'm sure you've already done it."

There were tears in her voice now. "Tyler, please… don't do this to me."

"I feel dirty."

Her sobs grew harsher, her chest heaving as she wept openly.

Tyler wanted to protest, to tell her nothing had ever happened between him and Vivienne, that it wasn't what she thought.

But she'd already made up her mind. What good would it do to argue?

Never mind.

With a deep frown, Tyler finally relented, unable to stand making her suffer any longer.

He sat up, gazing at Emilia as she lay on the bed, her clothes in disarray.

His desire hadn't faded in the slightest. He withdrew his hand from beneath her blouse and turned away, jaw clenched, struggling for control as his breath came ragged and shallow.

Moonlight poured through the window, painting the room in silver.

He listened as her sobs slowly quieted, then glanced down in frustration at his own body's response.

The bed shifted; Emilia sat up. She hastily buttoned her shirt, pulling up her pants, wiping at her tears as she fumbled with the tiny buttons, fastening them one by one in silence.

Only some of the buttons were missing—torn off in his rush, vanished somewhere on the floor.

"We'll get you another one later," Tyler said, watching her.
