Farewell to Love: The CEO's Desperate Chase novel Chapter 20

If anyone needed to be notified, the closest person was her husband, Tyler.

Sophia pushed that thought aside for now.

"Medication isn't a bad idea," Sophia said gently. "But you should still come in for regular therapy."

Emilia nodded, understanding.

"How about this—let's try a hypnosis session today," Sophia suggested.

Hypnosis...

Emilia hesitated for a moment, then nodded again.

She followed Sophia over to the chaise lounge, settled in, and slowly closed her eyes.

In the darkness behind her lids, everything felt chaotic, a jumble of half-formed memories and scattered thoughts.

When she became aware again, the world was gray, shrouded in overcast gloom.

It didn't take long for Emilia to realize where she was.

Cold fluorescent lights. An eerie, suffocating silence.

Before her was her father's body, wrapped in a white sheet.

It was years ago—the day she was called to identify his body.

Her mother was there, sobbing uncontrollably, while Emilia just stared, numb, at her father's pale, broken face.

That year, her father had leapt from a tall building, leaving behind only her and her mother—two women, utterly alone. The Dennis family was left in shambles.

The scene shifted. Suddenly, Emilia stood outside the imposing headquarters of The Dennis Group.

There was blood everywhere—her father's blood, splattered red and white across the pavement.

She just stood there, frozen, staring at her father's eyes, wide open even in death.

All around her, voices rose and clashed—her mother's hysterical screams, the vicious arguments, the ugly faces of those who'd come to pick apart what was left of the Dennis family.

They wanted the very last scraps of flesh from her and her mother.

They couldn't fight back.

Someone shoved her, and she fell hard, landing in her father's blood.

Wolves. She was surrounded by wolves baring their teeth, ready to tear them apart.

Then—suddenly—a pair of polished shoes appeared in her line of sight.

"Emilia, the Erickson family will protect you now," came a young but familiar voice.

Emilia looked up.

So,

How could she not love him?

But letting go, she realized, sometimes happens in the span of a single heartbeat.

Emilia closed her eyes again, her brow furrowing as pain radiated from her heart to her fingertips, sharp and relentless.

Sophia observed everything in silence.

With a long, quiet sigh, she said softly, "It seems you haven't truly let him go."

Emilia didn't reply right away. She just sat up slowly, wiped the tears from her eyes.

"I already have," she whispered.

When she opened her eyes again, they were calm and clear.

The past belonged to the past. The present was its own story.

The Dennis family's downfall was hers to face, hers to resolve.

Tyler—he loved Vivienne now. He'd broken Emilia's heart, and that was enough. There was no reason to hold on any longer.

It was like when her mother remarried and started a new life with her stepfather—everyone has their own path to follow.
