Farewell to Love: The CEO's Desperate Chase novel Chapter 19

Now, it all seemed so easy—almost effortless.

With that thought, she suppressed the smile threatening at the corners of her lips and closed her eyes, feigning weakness and resting quietly.

Elsewhere.

Emilia had just signed the contract with Christian.

Donovan Entertainment was one of the key investors in Voice of the Divine, and as the head of the company, Christian held significant sway.

Because he'd learned of Vivienne's involvement, Christian insisted Emilia sign a confidentiality agreement as well.

Emilia would join the competition as a masked contestant, performing under the stage name "Serena." At the right moment, she'd remove the mask, revealing her true face and identity to everyone.

Until that reveal, only Emilia and Christian would know who she really was.

Since it was a music show focused on songwriting and vocal ability, the masked singer angle was just clever marketing. The other agencies had their own PR tricks too, so nobody objected.

Serena—meaning serene and peaceful. Emilia liked how the name sounded, gentle and calm.

With everything settled, she drove to the hospital.

She'd rescheduled her appointment with the doctor earlier that morning; now, the timing was perfect.

After a quick lunch, Emilia made her way to Dr. Sophia Raine's office.

Knock, knock.

She tapped lightly on the door. When Dr. Raine looked up, Emilia nodded politely, stepped inside, and closed the door behind her.

Dr. Sophia Raine watched Emilia take her seat, then asked gently, "You seem a little different today. How have you been feeling lately?"

Sophia was Emilia's primary physician for her depression.

Emilia had been through so much—periods of wild joy, sharp pain, dizzying highs and lows.

Her first twenty-odd years, though not entirely happy, had at least offered some support, some sense of stability.

That changed the day Vivienne walked into their lives.

Despite her encouraging manner, Sophia was deeply concerned. She understood all too well what Tyler meant to Emilia.

Emilia stared at the blank white surface of the desk for nearly three seconds.

Finally, she managed a small smile. "Honestly? Not so great."

She left it at that, but her eyes reddened.

Still, she held back the tears.

"Dr. Raine," Emilia said quietly, "I've made up my mind. I'll start the medication."

She'd always held out hope for Tyler, hoped for a child together, and that hope had steered her away from antidepressants, relying only on therapy.

Now, she didn't want Tyler. She didn't want a child.

So, the decision became easy.

Sophia looked at her, worry etched in her features. Emilia seemed worse than before. For a moment, Sophia considered whether she ought to inform Emilia's family—perhaps even Tyler.
