Farewell to Love: The CEO's Desperate Chase novel Chapter 26

The policewoman tapped urgently on the car window, her face etched with worry as she peered at Emilia.

Emilia clutched her stomach, cold sweat breaking out across her forehead.

"Ma'am? Ma'am, are you all right? Can you hear me?" The officer's voice was frantic as she called out to someone nearby for help.

Emilia knew immediately—it was the baby.

She'd already been warned of a possible miscarriage.

Just moments ago, she'd had to sprint and dodge through the parking garage to avoid an oncoming car; she'd been jumping and running, and then, inside her own car, that black sedan had sideswiped her...

Was she about to lose the baby?

She wasn't ready for this. Not yet.

A wave of panic and grief washed over her.

She was terrified of losing this child.

Bang. Bang. Bang. "Ma'am, please! Can you hear me? Open the door!"

The policewoman's voice pressed in again.

Emilia's vision swam, black spots closing in. Gritting her teeth against the pain, she fumbled for the door handle, managed to open it—and collapsed.

...

Meanwhile, across town.

The lights of the Erickson Building blazed late into the night.

Tyler was buried in paperwork, hands skimming over the latest proposal. It had been back-to-back meetings all day, every decision waiting for his final say. The longer he worked, the tighter his expression became.

No one in the vast boardroom dared to make a sound.

Tyler tapped the report with his left hand. "Who's the manager in charge of this project?" His voice was calm and cold, but the underlying authority sent a chill through the room.

A middle-aged man stood up, dabbing sweat from his brow. "M-Mr. Erickson, that's me."

Tyler's eyes flicked over him. His lips parted, voice sharp and precise. "Explain."

The man wiped his forehead again, stumbling over his words. "Well, you see, it's just that… there were a few unexpected issues, and then—" His explanation dragged on, going nowhere, excuses piling up with every sentence.

"Enough." Tyler cut him off before he could continue.

The manager was visibly shaking now, terror in his eyes.

He pleaded, "Mr. Erickson, please, just give me one more chance. I promise I can fix this!"

Tyler's brow furrowed. At once, his secretary, Jensen, stepped forward, reading the situation perfectly.

Tyler sank into his chair, pinching the bridge of his nose, eyes closed in exhaustion.

Sensing his fatigue, Jensen quickly signaled for an assistant to bring in coffee.

Tyler sat, rubbing his temples, bone-tired.

An old adage flickered in his mind: "A spotless pond breeds no fish." In a company as massive as Erickson Group, problems were inevitable. He knew that. What he didn't understand was why he felt so utterly drained these last few days.

Footsteps approached, and Tyler sensed someone set a cup down on his desk.

"Tye, have some warm water. It's late, and you should take care of yourself. I've added a little lemon balm—it'll help you relax." The familiar voice echoed in his mind.

But when he opened his eyes, it was only Jensen, bowing slightly.

On the desk sat a steaming mug of coffee.

Tyler pressed his lips together.

"Is something wrong with the coffee, Mr. Erickson?" Jensen picked up on his mood instantly.

Tyler frowned, not quite sure himself why he felt so unsettled.

"Usually, Mrs. Erickson brings you warm water," Jensen apologized. "I couldn't find the herbal blend she uses, but you looked so tired, I thought at least some coffee would help…"
