Farewell to Love: The CEO's Desperate Chase novel Chapter 27

Yes, it's always been Emilia who stayed by his side.

Tyler closed his eyes, feeling the headache intensify.

"Should I call Mrs. Erickson and ask?" Jensen's tentative voice broke the silence.

"No need," Tyler replied.

Jensen murmured an acknowledgment, and the office fell silent again.

A silence as heavy as the grave.

Tyler had never noticed just how quiet this office could be.

Restlessness gnawed at him.

"What's going on this month?" Tyler finally broke the silence.

"Do you mean the workload, Mr. Erickson?" Jensen asked obediently.

"Yeah."

"Well," Jensen spoke in a low voice, "in the past, a lot of minor issues—like today's problem with Manager Quinn's embezzlement—would get reported up and Mrs. Erickson would handle them first. Only more important matters would make it to your desk. So…"

Tyler opened his eyes, giving Jensen a look.

Jensen caught his meaning and quickly added, a bit embarrassed, "Mr. Erickson, I should have managed things better."

Tyler didn't press the issue. He just shook his head.

"Where's the contract with The Cruz Group?"

Jensen lowered his gaze further.

"I'm sorry, Mr. Erickson. The staff haven't finished organizing it yet."

Tyler let out a sigh and waved Jensen off.

Relieved, Jensen hurried out.

Tyler stared at the closed door, fully aware of what had happened.

His sudden divorce from Emilia had left a mess—so many tasks she'd handled were left without proper handover.

The office was eerily quiet, broken only by the faint ticking of the clock.

A bitter scent of coffee lingered in the air.

The rising steam from his mug only deepened his frown.

He picked up his phone, looking at the unanswered message he'd sent Emilia, asking her to come back to the family estate over the weekend.

Still no reply.

He thought back to the last call, when she'd flatly refused his request to come home.

Is she still upset?

"There's something else…"

Vivienne paused, then continued, "I left the studio at 8:45 and something felt off. Just now, when I parked downstairs, I realized I've been followed by paparazzi since I left."

She looked genuinely apologetic as she pulled out her phone and handed it to Tyler.

On the screen were photos tracking Vivienne from the door of Vivian Floral Atelier all the way to The Erickson Group's building.

The captions read: "Vivienne spotted freely entering and leaving The Erickson Building late at night—rumors swirl of going public with Tyler."

Below that, a flood of comments ridiculed Emilia for being on the verge of getting replaced.

"Tyler, I'm so sorry, it's my fault," Vivienne said, her eyes red. "I didn't mean for any of this to happen."

Tyler waved her off, as if to say it wasn't anything important.

He'd planned to go public with Vivienne once the cooling-off period was over anyway.

But Emilia…

Suddenly, Tyler's phone vibrated violently.

The second hand on the clock jumped forward.

It was 9:20 p.m.

Tyler picked up his phone. Emilia's name was flashing on the caller ID.
