That was odd, Emilia thought.
Vivienne shot her a smug, disdainful glance—barely even pausing before she swept off toward the backstage area.
Backstage, Vivienne spotted Beatty sulking in the corner. Not that she cared about Beatty’s mood anyway.
Normally, she’d have thrown a few cutting remarks Serena’s way—couldn’t stand that woman. But after that blackmail incident, she wasn’t about to say anything reckless. Who knew if someone had planted more hidden recording devices nearby?
Let Serena stay in the competition for all she cared—her reputation was already in tatters. If Serena dared to get back on stage, Vivienne was more than ready to show her what it felt like to be ripped apart online.
Who did that little gold-digger think she was, trying to defy her? The only reason Vivienne had ever agreed to collaborate was to get at Emilia; she’d just let Serena off the hook for a little while. Did Serena really think her luck would last forever?
Ha.
...
The entire day was non-stop.
Emilia packed her schedule as tightly as possible; she had too much to do and barely enough time to breathe. She knew that in just a few days, once she took off her mask, she’d be openly declaring war on Tyler and Vivienne.
Theodore Glenn’s words kept resurfacing in her mind. No matter how many times she’d rehearsed her plans, would it really all go smoothly?
She knew better than anyone just how powerful the Erickson Group really was.
When rehearsals ended, she didn’t go over to greet Theodore Glenn. Still, as she was leaving, she caught him watching her from across the room. After a moment’s thought—he was, after all, the main sponsor—Emilia gave him a brief, polite nod, then turned and walked away.
It was the perfect gesture: courteous, unremarkable. Anyone watching would never guess that just hours earlier, he had proposed marriage to her.
Theodore Glenn smiled quietly to himself. She was keeping her distance, all right. But that was fine; he was in no hurry—he could take things slow.
