Farewell to Love: The CEO's Desperate Chase novel Chapter 28

Tyler's brow tightened ever so slightly.

Across from him, Vivienne noticed Emilia's name flashing across her phone screen. Something unreadable flickered in her eyes—confusion, and perhaps a hint of something more.

"Tyler?" Vivienne prompted, her gaze flicking to him with hesitation.

It jolted Tyler back to the present.

Vivienne's phone was still displaying the latest online gossip—tabloid rumors that she'd visited him late at night—and now Emilia was calling.

Was this an interrogation?

Tyler's frown deepened. He tapped to decline the call.

But barely a few seconds passed before his own phone started buzzing. Emilia again.

A wave of irritation washed over him.

"Aren't you going to answer?" Vivienne asked quietly.

Without a word, Tyler declined the call once more, then set Emilia's number to Do Not Disturb.

"There's no need to deal with this," he said calmly.

Vivienne seemed to want to say something, her lips parting and then closing again. She nodded, uneasy, glancing down as if anxious—but in that brief moment, there was a flash of satisfaction in her eyes.

She'd done it on purpose.

She'd intentionally told Tyler about the trending video that afternoon, made sure he saw the latest gossip, and now, right in front of him, she'd brought up Emilia's call—just to make sure he wouldn't answer.

"Let's head back. It's late."

Tyler picked up his coat and helped Vivienne to her feet. Together, they took the executive elevator down from the top floor of The Erickson Building.

As the two of them were snapped by paparazzi, the photos already spreading online, somewhere across town, Emilia was being wheeled out of an ambulance.

The gurney rushed through the hospital halls, her forehead bleeding, staining the white sheets beneath her.

Emilia floated in and out of consciousness. Through heavy eyelids, she caught glimpses of the harsh, cold hospital lights flickering past overhead.

Noise filled her ears—the chaos of the ER, and the tense voices of police officers.

Joyce was livid.

Watching Emilia—her hair matted with blood—being pushed into the ER, she felt a cold wave of dread in her gut.

Thank God they'd brought her to Alden General Hospital. Thank God she'd been working late tonight. Thank God she happened to pass by and heard the commotion—just in time to see what was happening.

Just moments ago, the staff had been debating how to proceed with Emilia's case. In a crisis like this, no one knew Emilia was pregnant.

Thank God she did.

Thank God her father was the hospital's director—her anger actually meant something here.

Otherwise, who knows what might have happened to Emilia?

Joyce glanced at the police officer still fiddling with Emilia's phone, trying to reach someone—anyone. She strode over, quickly explaining her credentials as both a doctor and Emilia's friend, and that she was familiar with the officer's attempts to contact family members. She took the phone from her.

The missed calls were lined up in a solid block across the screen. Joyce's temper flared.

Her own phone buzzed in her pocket.
