“And the whole lawsuit could drag on for ages. You’d be much better off just agreeing to work with me now—get the funding, get the resources.”
But Emilia only smiled faintly, then hung up without another word.
She stared at her phone for a moment.
She knew Vivienne wouldn’t give up so easily.
In fact, Emilia almost looked forward to seeing what self-destructive move Vivienne would come up with next.
At first, Vivienne might have clung to the excuse that she hadn’t intentionally infringed on anyone’s rights—she could claim she thought buying the song meant she could present it as her own original work.
But now, Vivienne was fully aware of what she was doing. She refused to issue a public apology, stubbornly going her own way and trying to muddy the waters by tacking on Emilia’s name as a footnote.
There was a world of difference between the two situations. Willful infringement carried much heavier consequences.
Based on what Emilia knew of Tyler, if a project became too risky, he’d pull the plug without a second thought.
But what if Vivienne insisted on pushing forward anyway?
Emilia lowered her gaze, her thoughts sharpening.
Vivienne, you’re digging your own grave.
She clenched her right fist, steadying herself.
Then she slipped back into the hospital room, refocusing on her work.
In a few days, the Glenn Group’s first batch of new releases would hit the shelves. Emilia intended to be ready—she wanted everything to go off without a hitch.
…
Elsewhere—
After several days of rest and recovery, Tyler was feeling himself again.
He glanced down at Vivienne, then tapped his finger against the new recording of “Faint Whispers” on his tablet.
“What exactly are you thinking?” he asked.
Vivienne looked up, all wide-eyed innocence.
“Tyler, I added her name, didn’t I?” she said, feigning naivete. “Wasn’t that the issue before? Now that it’s there, it should be fine.”
Tyler felt a headache coming on.
