His captors finally let go.
Tyler climbed back into his car, gripped by an overwhelming urge to throw caution to the wind and tell her everything—every secret, every truth.
But the memory of that moment, the one that haunted him, flashed before his eyes once again.
He managed, somehow, to hold himself back.
He turned the wheel and pulled away, leaving that place behind.
The sleek Maybach sped through the city, but Tyler had no idea where he was heading. It felt as though his heart was being torn to shreds, the pain so fierce he could hardly breathe.
Tears streamed down his face. He had never been this lost, this broken.
One thought echoed endlessly in his mind—She doesn’t want me anymore.
She really didn’t want him.
He’d never felt that truth so sharply, so viscerally.
He thought he might be losing his mind.
The Maybach cut through the night, moving almost on autopilot, Tyler numb at the wheel, driving with no destination in mind.
When he finally looked up, he realized the car had stopped in front of Hillside Manor—the house that was supposed to be their home.
The sight brought back the memory of their wedding day. Her white dress. That radiant smile. The way her eyes had sparkled, filled only with him.
Tyler pushed open the car door and walked up to the house.
Click.
He flicked on the lights.
The house was empty, echoing with silence.
Everything she’d lovingly arranged to make it a home was gone. Only his things remained.
Tyler squeezed his eyes shut in pain.
All he could see was that first night after their wedding. They’d come home together, the guests already gone. He’d swept her into his arms, carried her to the kitchen, and set her down on the counter.
“Want something to drink?” he’d asked, grinning.
She’d laughed, “Sure.”
He’d taken a bottle of wine from the fridge and poured her a glass. She’d sipped it, still smiling.
Then he’d kissed her, tasting her lips and the faint sweetness of the wine.
