The pain in his chest felt like it might explode.
Tyler stared at Vivienne, and for a moment, he didn’t know who to blame anymore.
In the end, all he could do was blame himself.
Blame himself for thinking he could control everything.
Blame himself for being such a fool.
His grip loosened on Vivienne’s collar, and he pulled his hand out of hers.
Without another word, he turned away, staggering toward the door.
“Tyler!” Vivienne called out before he’d even reached the threshold. “You’ll still stay with me, right?”
“Four months,” he said, voice hollow.
“We promised. Even if it’s all just an act—even if you’re lying to me—just do it so I’ll keep quiet.” Her words trembled between them.
Tyler let out a laugh. A sad, broken laugh.
In that instant, he truly didn’t know what to do anymore.
“Tyler, I’ll behave, I promise,” she pleaded. “I swear, it was only those two times that I lost control. Nothing else.”
“I haven’t hurt her again. Please—just give me one last chance. Let’s keep our deal, okay?”
But Tyler didn’t answer. He just kept that bitter smile on his lips.
He felt like he was on the brink of losing his mind.
If he really did snap, maybe then he could finally break the promise—maybe he could run to Emilia, beg her to come back.
But why was he still so painfully aware of himself?
Why did he still know exactly what he had to do?
Knock, knock, knock…
Israel heard the sounds from inside and pushed open the door.
He stopped short, taking in the strange, tense scene before him.
“What… happened here?”
He’d only caught the muffled sounds of arguing from the hallway and hadn’t been able to make out the words.
“Mr. Erickson?” Israel ventured cautiously.
