“Just because he went on a few dates with you?” Christian frowned.
“Yes,” Emilia replied quietly. “Just those few dates.”
Christian opened his mouth, as if he wanted to argue, but in the end, he said nothing.
Emilia let out a long sigh. “These past seven years have left me so exhausted. There were times I thought I’d forgotten how to love.”
“He just… burst into my life. He was persistent, caring in every detail. He touched me, moved me—and I started to fall for him.”
Christian kept frowning at her. The usual teasing smile was gone. Now, he just looked sad.
“Christian.” Emilia spoke his name softly.
But she couldn’t keep going. Her words trailed off.
They stared at each other for a moment. Finally, Christian managed a small, resigned smile.
“Yeah.” He nodded.
Emilia exhaled, visibly relieved.
Christian glanced up, his gaze shifting over Emilia’s shoulder to somewhere behind her.
Emilia turned to follow his eyes—and realized Felix had been standing there, quietly, for who knows how long.
Now that they’d noticed him, Felix walked over.
He didn’t say much—just reached out and patted Emilia’s shoulder gently.
He met Christian’s eyes, and a silent understanding passed between them.
“Next week, The Erickson Group is holding their product launch,” Christian told Emilia, switching to business. “Wyatt’s probably going to use the publicity to dump his shares. My team’s watching him closely. Once the money starts shifting, we’ll finally have solid evidence.”
Christian forced himself not to dwell on the rest. Emilia’s partnership had already given him an edge in the Donovan family’s endless power struggle. He couldn’t hope for more. He shouldn’t.
If she had someone she cared about, he ought to wish her well.
Felix let out a deep sigh. He didn’t add anything personal, just said, “The Solmaris conference is coming up soon. I’ll go check on Vivienne while I’m there.”
“Thank you, Felix.” Emilia nodded gratefully.
