“Alright,” Emilia agreed, hanging up the phone. She quickly washed up, grabbed the contract, and hurried out the door.

Sitting in the back of a cab, she called Theodore, asking him to take Bella to preschool.

“Is something wrong?” Theodore asked as he picked up Bella’s backpack.

“Someone from the Erickson Group needs to see me,” Emilia replied.

“I’ll come get you later,” he said.

Emilia stared out at the road ahead, nodded, and murmured, “Okay.”

Meanwhile, at the Erickson Group headquarters, the entire family had gathered: the elder Mr. and Mrs. Erickson, Tyler, and Vivienne.

The atmosphere in the room was tense, each person lost in their own thoughts.

The older couple looked weary, the kind of exhaustion that only comes from sleepless nights. Every now and then, Parker shot Tyler an exasperated glare.

Tyler, for his part, was the picture of calm—so calm, in fact, he seemed entirely untouched by the tension in the room.

Vivienne sat with her head bowed, fidgeting with a second phone in her hand. She’d claimed her old one had a broken screen, but in truth, she was just afraid Tyler would get his hands on it again.

Suddenly, her phone buzzed.

Vivienne glanced at the screen.

A wave of relief washed over her.
