Meanwhile—
Joyce had already arrived at Odette's workplace, the same friend who'd helped her with the livestream before.
Since Odette wasn't answering her calls, Joyce simply headed upstairs to find her.
Odette was clearly surprised when she saw Joyce walk in. "Joyce? What are you doing here?"
"Odette, I need to talk to you for a minute." Joyce glanced at the others in the office, then gently tugged Odette outside.
"What's up? Why so secretive?" Odette asked curiously.
Joyce cut straight to the point. "I messaged you last night—why didn't you reply?"
Odette just sighed. "Don't get me started. Everyone working at the Voice of the Divine event had our phones confiscated yesterday."
Joyce immediately felt a knot form in her stomach. "What happened?"
Of all times, it had to be now—right when the Yesterday Once More performance was under investigation. And it just had to be the Voice of the Divine crew.
"I'm not really sure myself," Odette admitted. "We still haven't got our phones back. I had to borrow someone's to call my mom and let her know I'm okay."
"Sorry, it's just that the company's taking this really seriously. When I walked by the conference room at lunch, I overheard people talking about making us sign confidentiality agreements."
Odette noticed the worry etched on Joyce's face. Taking her hand, she said gently, "Hey, what's going on? Talk to me. Maybe I can help."
…
In the hospital room—
Emilia wrinkled her nose and said, "If it smells that good, shouldn't you hurry up and bring it over to my table?"
She set up the little rolling tray by her bed and patted it, looking expectantly at Felix.
Felix just arched an eyebrow—well, someone's feisty today.
That caught her off guard, and she started coughing—hard. In her scramble, she bumped a dish and spilled some soup onto her hospital gown.
Felix quickly patted her back and handed her some napkins. "Seriously, two words and you're choking?"
It took her a moment to recover. She dabbed at her clothes and finally managed, "Felix, please. I'm only eating your food because Joyce is out today. Otherwise, I'd be too scared to touch it."
Felix tapped her forehead with his finger. "That's just cruel, you know."
She just gave him a helpless look, not sure what else to say.
Noticing the mess on her clothes, Emilia decided she should go change in the bathroom.
Felix reached out to steady her as she stood up.
She tried to brush him off—twice—but he didn't budge, so she let him help. At least he wouldn't follow her into the bathroom.
The private room was divided into two sections: the bed area, and a sunlit balcony separated by a paneled glass door. It offered both privacy and a warm wash of sunlight.
