There was a bathroom connected to the balcony.
Emilia stepped inside, leaving Felix waiting for her outside in the sunshine.
As she looked down at the clothes in her hands, Emilia hesitated for a moment before finally speaking up.
"Felix, I've been friends with Joyce since we were kids. You're her brother, and I've always thought of you as a big brother too."
She only dared to say it with the bathroom door between them.
"So, those jokes Joyce makes about us being together, don't take them seriously."
Felix stood outside, just beyond the closed door. The easy smile on his face slowly faded.
Noon sunlight spilled across his feet, but his eyes turned dark and unreadable.
A brief, heavy silence passed.
Then, with a nonchalant tone, he called back, "Got it. Joyce has always been like that—always making things up as she goes."
Hearing Felix's familiar, unbothered voice, Emilia breathed a sigh of relief.
She really was worried Felix would take Joyce's teasing seriously.
After all, she had only ever seen him as Joyce's older brother. Nothing more, nothing less.
Lately, Joyce kept trying to set them up, finding every excuse to nudge them closer together. Emilia had told her more than once to stop, but Joyce never listened.
Now that everything was out in the open, maybe things wouldn't be so awkward anymore.
With that thought, Emilia hurried to change.
Felix's voice came through the door again, teasing, "Ha, you sound like Joyce scared you. Need help changing? Want me to call someone for you?"
Emilia rolled her eyes, finally feeling at ease. That familiar, annoying tone—he really was fine.
"I can handle it myself! Mind your own business," she shot back, half-laughing.
Out in the corridor, Tyler turned the corner, his jaw clenched tight.
He leaned against the wall, lips pressed into a thin, grim line.
From the balcony, he could still hear Emilia and Felix's laughter. Through the glass, their silhouettes looked close—too close.
Was this another one of her games?
Did she set this up, making sure he'd see her with someone else, just to make him jealous?
Ever since he'd gone to the reception desk to ask for Emilia's room, something had felt off.
They'd told him it would take a moment to find her information. Had they already known he was coming?
Had they waited for him to come upstairs—just to put on this little show?
Tyler shut his eyes, fists clenched so tight his knuckles turned white.
