Farewell to Love: The CEO's Desperate Chase novel Chapter 76

There was a feeling in his chest—something he couldn't quite control.

Something inside him was starting to slip beyond his grasp.

He just didn't realize it yet.

At last, Tyler opened his eyes. At that moment, his gaze had turned utterly calm, unreadable.

She couldn't fool him—not with her games.

She'd been by his side for seven years; he knew her nature all too well.

She couldn't leave him. She never could.

Tyler drove back to The Erickson Building and went through the motions of his day, handling company affairs as usual.

Everything seemed unchanged, and yet, beneath the surface, something felt different.

A soft chime sounded.

New email.

Tyler clicked it open. It was an invitation to a charity gala.

Tomorrow evening at seven.

The message expressed hope that he could attend, and that he was welcome to bring a plus-one.

His phone buzzed.

A text from Vivienne.

[Tyler, I heard Donovan Group is hosting a charity gala. I'd really love to do something small to help those patients, but I don't have an invitation. You do, don't you? Would you take me?]

He rarely attended these kinds of events.

In the past seven years, he'd only gone three times.

At those events, people usually brought an executive assistant, a professional date, or a significant other—a girlfriend, a wife, or a family member.

Given Tyler's personality, if he ever showed up, the person on his arm was always Emilia.

Every time, for seven years, it had only ever been Emilia.

Now, he and Emilia were still in the middle of a cooling-off period. Tyler was about to decline Vivienne's request, but…

For some reason, the image flashed in his mind again: Emilia and Felix, together behind the rippled glass doors of a hospital room at Alden General, close, almost tender.

His lips pressed into a thin line. A strange, unfamiliar emotion swept through him.

After a moment, he replied to Vivienne—

"I'll be there," Emilia spoke before he could stumble through his explanation.

"Huh?" Christian looked genuinely stunned. "You know what I was going to say?"

Emilia handed him her phone.

On Serena's account, the charity gala invitation was already open.

Tomorrow night at seven, hosted by Donovan Group.

If the message had reached Serena's phone, it meant Christian hadn't lost the argument at home.

She needed to secure Voice of the Divine, and now the invitation was in her hands. She had to go.

Christian hesitated, then said, "Well, it's… a bit complicated."

Emilia waited for him to continue.

He scratched his head. "It's just… my granddad thinks I like you. He'll be there, so…"

Emilia smiled. "Then you'll have to help me pick out a gift for your granddad—something understated, but still polite."

"You can still smile about this?" Christian groaned, exasperated.

Anyone else, he could handle—his older brothers were annoying, but he could manage them. His father was just a layabout. But his granddad? That was a whole different headache.
