Sienna’s POV
The freshness of the morning was palpable when we all left the house. As the sun rose from the sky, it was reflected in the trees along the roadside. With his new backpack on him, Noah shuffled between us and bounced back with ease, appearing to be too big for his small size.
My fingers were tighter as he softly said, “Mommy, I’m apprehensive.”
“I smiled and curled up to fit in with his height. That’s the way it was.” Everybody’s heart goes crazy on the very first day. It’s within my capabilities to acknowledge that you can.
Liam, positioned on Noah’s opposite side, gently stated, “Dad and Mommy are here for you whenever you feel anxious.”
Noah nodded and his face lightened up once more.
We proceeded towards the car that was parked in front of the house. Despite the cool morning air, we were all enveloped in a strange warmth. Noah made small steps before turning around and calling out, “I’m sitting in the back, Mommy!” as he continued on.
“I smiled and nodded my head.” I agreed. “Your seat’s ready.”
Liam made sure the seat belt was securely fastened before closing the back door with care. I observed from the opposite vantage point where small actions that were once insignificant now seemed to have a significant meaning.
Inside, there was a sense of tranquility as the car started moving. Noah and I used to spend a lot of time driving around the city late at night, listening to sung tunes on the radio. Hearing it now made me stop and pause for a moment. The majority of the changes had been temporary, but Liam still found some remarkable things such as looking at Noah’s face in the rearview mirror or seeing him with a wide open view from the window.
“Look, Mommy! There’s a blue balloon in front of that store!” he exclaimed softly.
I paused to take a moment and smiled. “As beautiful as that is. Could we potentially purchase a similar item after school, is that feasible?”
Noah nodded quickly. “Okay!”
We were still here, Liam laughed softly. Despite making insignificant commitments to keep him motivated.
With a grimace on my cheek, I gazed at him. “It’s not nonsense back. Sometimes, the minor aspects are of utmost importance.”
We fell silent after that. Even though the streets were getting busier, it was still a pleasant ride and comfortable in compared to previous experiences. The wind blew in and the trees swayed gently from the window, leaving me feeling like I was witnessing a part of our past that we were losing.
I shifted to the passenger side. While fidgeting with his backpack strap, Noah bit his lip. His nervous appearance was obvious, I knew.

My words were simple, “You’re welcome to be scared.” During his first day of school, Mommy was also feeling
nervous.
He chuckled. “Mommy, did you feel afraid too?”
I nodded. “Yes. It was enjoyable once I made new friends.”
Noah briefly contemplated it before glancing back with relief. “Assuming I am okay, then.”
Without hesitation, Liam exclaimed “Yes, you will,” his eyes fixed on the road. “You’re a strong boy. What an honor to be seen.”
The morning light glimmered through Liam’s face, his profile glowing brightly from the side. He couldn’t quite hide a certain calm and pride. It made me realize how much we had progressed since I saw him in that way. It wasn’t always smooth sailing for me, but this morning felt like a peaceful second chance was waiting for us.
The automobile veered towards the main thoroughfare. The school building, with its cream walls and white fences, was visible in the distance. Some children were running along the sidewalk with their parents. The sight caught Noah’s eye with wide anticipation.
“Mommy, is that my school?”
“Yes, my friend, as I turned towards him and smiled at his face. There are many new things you can learn at this location.‘
Liam sped up the car. “We’re almost there. What happened?”
Even as he tried to hide his nervousness, Noah’s heart race was so rapid that I could barely hear him speak. I reached out and squeezed his little hand.
I muttered, “That’s fine. Mommy and Daddy are in this place.”
The vehicle moved slowly towards the school parking area, shaded by a big tree in front of them.
The school was already teeming with activity when we arrived. The children arrived with their parents, some holding hands and others rushing towards new friends. A mixture of laughter, footsteps and greetings characterized the morning. All in good spirits.
I looked at the scene with a slight frown. I experienced a strange mixture of pride and nostalgia. Growing up quickly was how Noah came about. The moment I held his hand as he took his first steps was even more special, and now a day later, if only yesterday.
A large colorful sign reading Welcome to Elementary School caught the attention of Noah, who glared at it.
He exclaimed, “It’s so cute!”
As we moved closer, we stopped by the gate. A pleasant, kind–looking woman teacher approached us with a
smile.
“Good morning!”
“Our son is a different world to you,” she said softly, looking down at him.
