Chapter 32
Vincent had consulted a fortune teller to select auspicious burial sites for Patrick, Angela, Nicole, and Michael.
Rebecca’s tomb stood nearby, extravagantly built yet empty.
Vincent kept her funeral urn in his study, planning for their joint burial after his own death.
Kyle was now serving a prison sentence, while Susan was escorted daily by bodyguards to kneel at the cemetery-to- day being no exception.
When Vincent brought Rebecca near Patrick’s grave, Susan was being chased and beaten by passersby, disheveled and wailing.
Vincent shot her a disgusted look; bodyguards promptly intercepted and drove off the attackers.
Rebecca froze at the sight of Susan’s ash-streaked face. How had the once-glamorous woman aged ten years in mere months? Scratches marred her roughened skin.
Rebecca-she’d actually returned alive!
Susan glared hatefully, resentment flashing in her eyes.
Vincent felt no trace of affection for Susan now. Their unexpected encounter twisted his expression into a grimace.
Amidst his ongoing conflict with Rebecca, Susan’s wretched state filled him with utter revulsion.
He waved dismissively, signaling the bodyguards to remove her.
Susan wanted to complain to Vincent, but when she saw his expression of disgust and the murderous glint in his eyes, she swallowed her words and followed the bodyguard away like a scolded dog.
Halfway down the path, she glanced back and saw Vincent holding Rebecca by the grave, whispering something. His profile radiated tenderness.
The fighting spirit that daily harassment had crushed now reignited in Susan’s chest.
She watched them through gritted teeth, consumed by bitterness.
The bodyguard urged her onward, yanking her so hard she stumbled.
Back at Brocade Central Villa, Susan immediately hired a top copywriter to craft an emotional appeal for Elizabeth.
Elizabeth received Susan’s message that same evening.
Her past fondness for Susan had curdled into pure revulsion.
How could a disgraced celebrity ever deserve her son?

After leaving the Cemetery, Vincent escorted Rebecca to Spring Harmony Villa. They’d barely settled when the nan- ny brought steaming tea.
Vincent handed Rebecca the teacup, then abruptly stood up. He took off his jacket and rolled up his sleeves. Meeting her puzzled gaze, he smiled. “Today I’m cooking for you myself. Making something delicious.”
Rebecca froze for a second before averting her eyes, avoiding his gentle expression.
He was once among those she cared for most. Even with the chasm between them now, her heart still stirred. She could only bury every emotion deep within.
Seeing her silence, Vincent squatted down and took her hand, speaking softly, “I’ve been thinking. From now on, let Dr. Frank handle your medical care. After dinner, I’ll have him come check on you. Alright?”
Rebecca looked at him, glimpsing once more the man who’d cherished her dearly.
A faint smile touched her lips as she nodded. “Alright.”
Watching that gentle curve of her mouth, Vincent felt a flicker of joy.
Soon the dishes were ready. The presentation was unremarkable, yet far better than expected.
Meeting Vincent’s hopeful eyes, Rebecca picked up a bite with her chopsticks and placed it in her mouth. She chewed.
Vincent watched her expression intently, nervously asking, “Is it edible? If it’s awful, just spit it out?”
Rebecca swallowed the food in her mouth, then looked up at the man opposite her. Seeing the panic in his eyes, she said softly with a laugh. “Not bad, tastes good.”
Vincent breathed a huge sigh of relief. The tension on his face instantly vanished, replaced by a proud expression. He said smugly, “Worth all the time I spent learning.”
After saying that, he picked up his chopsticks and piled a heap of food into Rebecca’s bowl.
The two of them had a rare, harmonious lunch.
Rebecca took a few bites, then put down her chopsticks.
Vincent looked at her small face and pale complexion, immediately frowning again. “Why are you still so thin? I’ll find a few more chefs who make tonic diets to come over, give you a change of taste, and help with nutrition.”
