From Neglected Wife to CEO’s Obsession novel Chapter 111

The red rose dangled from his finger, its petals drooping a little.

“Avery, I knew it. You love me too much to go through with the divorce. You’re just mad at me right now, aren’t you? I can change, really, just trust me—”

Remy’s eyes softened, all the coldness he had shown to Jeffery fading away, replaced by the gentle look I’d once found so familiar.

I couldn’t stand to hear him go on. “And you, Remy—Jeffery’s right. I’m a total stickler about relationships. I can’t ever forgive you for cheating. We’re getting divorced, no matter what. If you’re not here to sign the papers, just leave me alone, okay? Seriously, I’m sick of this.”

I’d never cursed in front of Remy before. He looked stunned, his lips pressed into a thin line.

He didn’t try to touch me again. After taking a couple of deep breaths, he handed me a small, elegant box and pointed behind him. “I was planning to give this to you for your birthday. There was some shipping issue, so it only just got here.”

I looked past him. There, in the open parking lot, was the supercar I’d been gushing over for ages—worth seven million dollars, just sitting there waiting for me. The tiny box in my hand held the keys.

I’d mentioned that car to Remy once, just in passing. I said I thought it looked cool. I never thought he’d actually remember, let alone buy it.

Remy always paid attention. He always knew exactly what I liked.

It’s such a shame. The Remy I loved is gone for good. No matter what he does, he’ll never come back to life in my heart.

“Thanks.” It was bought with our shared money, so I just took it. No point wasting time pretending otherwise.

I opened the car door, already excited to sit inside and breathe in that new car smell.
