There were definitely bolder moves I could make, but Julia’s words felt like a challenge, like she was trying to push me into doing something reckless.
I wasn’t about to fall for it. No way was I letting her use me as her weapon.
I ended the call with Julia and texted Kailynn, letting her know I’d be dropping by later to talk to Liam about the divorce papers.
Not even a minute later, Kailynn video-called me. Her hair was a total disaster, sticking up in every direction, but she looked thrilled. She practically cheered me on for finally making a move, then immediately started complaining about how Liam had left for Europe yesterday for some global legal conference.
I tried to hide my disappointment, chatted with her for a bit, then hung up.
So, Liam wasn’t even in Georgia Bay. Great. Time to come up with a new plan.
There were a few law firms online that seemed eager to take my case, but I wasn’t sure if any of them were legit. I hadn’t dared to actually reach out yet.
Maybe I should just try one. At this point, what did I have to lose? Desperate times, desperate measures.
I’d promised Julia the divorce agreement today. I’d felt so sure of myself, and now Liam’s trip had thrown everything off.
Frustrated, I grabbed my keys and headed out for a drive, hoping to clear my head.
The riverfront had been packed with people and fireworks not that long ago, but now it was almost empty. Just a handful of old men jogging along the wide path, the city barely waking up.
I sat on the steps by the river, staring out at the endless water.
