So basically, I’d come all this way just to sit around while Elliot took his assistant to handle the actual meeting. I couldn’t help but wonder what the point of bringing me along even was.

The guest lounge was really pretty—four long couches arranged in a square, two facing huge floor-to-ceiling windows, the other two half-hidden behind big potted plants, giving the place this cozy, secluded vibe.

I glanced out the window just as a black G-Class Mercedes pulled into the lot. Jeffery, looking sharp as always, got out first. He walked around to open the back door for a woman in a dark green, ankle-length dress.

Her heels looked a little too high, so she was stepping carefully, chatting with Jeffery as they came up the walk. From where I was sitting, I could see her graceful jawline and the soft, warm smile she wore—she looked so gentle and smart.

I couldn’t help but let out a bitter laugh. Men really are all the same. Jeffery was just like Remy.

Always so well put-together, always so charming, always saying the right things. He’d told me he loved me, just like the others—and here he was, waltzing into a hotel with another woman.

Jeffery led her into the lobby. Maybe I was staring too openly, because suddenly the woman glanced right at me. That’s when I realized—
