From Neglected Wife to CEO’s Obsession novel Chapter 50

“Of course, Mr. Swanson, this way.” I led Elliot and Ryan down the hall to my office, calling out for Vicky to make us some coffee.

Elliot sat perfectly straight, every inch of him composed and dignified. He had this quiet authority about him—those sharp, sculpted features, the faintest curve to his lips, and that deep, magnetic voice that somehow made my heart skip a beat.

“No need to go to any trouble,” he said. “Mr. White is recovering at Central Hospital. I’ll be visiting him at ten. I heard you admire him most of all—want to come with me?”

My heart almost leaped out of my chest.

This was huge. I barely kept it together.

Mr. White was one of the pioneers of computer science in our country—not just a genius, but a legend whose passion and loyalty to science had always inspired me. I practically worshipped him.

He’d contributed so much to research and the nation. Back in my junior year of college, I’d been lucky enough to sit in on one of his lectures. It changed my whole outlook.

From that day, I stopped chasing after celebrities and started following in his footsteps. Every paper he published, every lecture he gave—especially his book on AI—I read them all again and again, practically wore the pages thin.

“Yes, yes, thank you, boss.” I was so excited my eyes actually welled up. If Elliot and Ryan hadn’t been here, I probably would’ve done a happy dance right there.

After everything that had gone wrong lately, my mood had been in the gutter.

But this? This was exactly what I needed.

As soon as Elliot left, Vicky snuck back in, looking around like she was about to spill top-secret info. She started ranting about all the things Zoey had done wrong, ticking them off on her fingers. By the end, she folded her arms and said, “Good thing our big bosses can see through everything. If John and his daughter ran Elite Tech, the company would be toast. But, Avery, the way Mr. Swanson looks at you is different. You guys know each other, right? Is he secretly into you?”

I nearly choked.

I slapped a hand over her mouth. “Don’t even joke about that. I’m married. No matter how desperate the boss is, I’m not on his radar. And zip it—spreading rumors will get you fired.”
