From Neglected Wife to CEO’s Obsession novel Chapter 75

If you really want to break someone, the easiest way is to go straight for her confidence. Once that’s gone, she’ll start scrambling for anything—any tiny scrap—to prove she’s right.

Julia let out a laugh, sharp and shrill like shattered glass. It was the kind of sound that makes your skin crawl.

Maybe the effort of laughing took it out of her, because when she finally spoke, she was almost out of breath. “Ms. Greenwood, don’t blame me for saying this, but honestly, you’re just too naïve. You can stop pretending to be so calm—I see right through it. Women know other women best, after all. If you can’t even handle the little bit I’ve said so far, you probably won’t survive what I’m about to tell you next. So, Mrs. Thompson, want to hear it?”

I didn’t budge. My voice was steady, even though I could taste bitterness at the back of my throat. “You can make up whatever stories you want, but if you don’t have proof, I’m not buying it. Remy already told me everything. Six years ago, when you left, you became just a memory to him. He’s with me now. He loves me, not you. He’s only being nice to you because you’re sick. I’m not clueless, and no amount of stirring the pot is going to work on me.”

Julia looked at me like I was hopeless, her eyes practically overflowing with disdain. Then, suddenly, she stepped right up to me—close enough that only a fist could fit between us.

“Five years. For five years, he’s gone abroad every single month. You remember that, don’t you? Ever wonder what he was really doing? He never actually managed to get those foreign connections sorted out. The truth is, he was coming to see me. Every time, he was desperate for me—so desperate, he’d leave me covered in bruises. He never held back. Oh, and two nights ago, he spent the night at my place. Didn’t you notice the scratch marks on him? I made sure you’d see them. And these—Mrs. Thompson, want a closer look?”
