Chapter 54
1/2
Megan had met Blair once when he was leaving. His expression had been very complicated. It was hard to describe. Perhaps it was something akin to mocking, with a trace of ridicule.
In the end, he asked Howard, “So this is your wife, Howard?”
That question was even weirder.
That was because she’d never kept her marriage with Howard behind closed doors. Megan had been with Howard for seven years. After graduating, she could frequently be seen in Larson Group. As the Head of
Procurement, how could Blair not know her?
Megan had always thought there was something off about that. However, when she questioned Howard about it, he refused to answer.
She informed Cynthia about what she recalled, hoping they would be able to crack the case as soon as possible.
The police got up to leave after hearing her testimony. Before they left, Cynthia said, “Right. I think your car has been fixed. Remember to pick it up when you’re feeling better.”
Megan nodded and thanked her.
Cynthia headed back to the station with her colleague. A bunch of them were analyzing the case. They labelled pictures with descriptions of people like Howard, Alyssa, and Blair.
“All of them are potential suspects. Should we start interrogating them? Or should we ask her husband about the accident first?”
Recalling how she had phoned Howard using Megan’s phone, only to yield no response, Cynthia said hesitantly, “As all of them are somewhat connected to each other, we’ll need to deploy some specific interrogation tactics.”
The policewoman and her companion who sent Megan to the hospital that day nodded.
“When his wife was being treated in the emergency ward after a car accident, he was keeping his mistress company. We phoned him countless times, but he never picked up. Something feels wrong.”
Her colleague handed Cynthia a file.
“This is the newest information we’ve obtained. Howard and Megan are midway through divorce proceedings. They’re currently waiting for it to be completed.”
Everyone traded looks.
They had handled many situations where men harmed their wives for the sake of their mistresses. Sometimes, they were even accomplices to the crime.

After a discussion, their leader determined, “Asking Howard for information is a necessary procedure. After all, it could be his other enemies who did it. The thing is, due to the complicated roster of characters involved and the gaps in our chain of evidence, we need to go about this strategically.”
He turned to Cynthia and ordered, “Cynthia, lead a team to work on this case. You’re given clearance to decide on the time, place, evidence collection methods, and witness visits.”
Cynthia immediately stood up and said, “Got it.”
Meanwhile, Howard pulled up at the hospital. Roland had been extremely mad the day before and was hospitalized as a result. Howard had tried to visit multiple times, but Bethany chased him away.
