Chapter 55

The caretaker apologized nervously upon seeing Howard, “My apologies, Mr. Larson. I lost my grip.”

Howard shook his hand and flipped Ronald over. “Let me do it.”

He took the towel from the caretaker and began wiping Ronald down himself. After bringing him a basin of water, the caretaker headed out. Ronald and Howard were the only ones left in the VIP room.

After finishing up with Ronald’s back, Howard turned him over once more. As he was unconscious, he couldn’t exert any energy in easing Howard’s task. Ronald was around 100 pounds. Moving him around required a lot of strength. Even Howard found it a little challenging.

Then, he wiped down Ronald’s front.

However, when he dipped the towel into the water, Howard noticed that it had cooled. He had no choice but to head to the washroom to get more warm water before repeating his motions.

By the time he finished cleaning Ronald up, half an hour had passed.

Sweat had beaded on Howard’s forehead. He sighed in.relief after he was done. Then, he froze.

Was it this tiring just to wipe down an elderly person?

Howard was stronger than Megan, yet he was already exhausted. How had she felt?

He looked at Ronald, but he was recalling Megan flitting around taking care of him.

After a pause, he averted his eyes.

He headed to the sink and poured the water away. Then, he went to seek out the doctor to ask about Ronald’s situation.

Before he could round the corner, he heard voices.

“Yeah, my back’s killing me. I’m exhausted from taking care of patients every day.” It was the caretaker from just now.

There was another skinnier caretaker beside her who said, “Of all people, you’re tired? Aren’t you taking care of Mr. Larson Senior? Who here doesn’t know that he requires the least work and provides the highest pay?”

Nodding, she replied, “That may be true, but since Megan left, it hasn’t been easy for me.”

“How does that work?”

“You guys just don’t get it.”

She massaged her back before explaining, “Megan’s filial. She frequently visits Mr. Larson Senior. She does a lot of things herself in a very detailed manner, which surpasses the performance of other

caretakers.”

Her colleague didn’t believe her. “Really? I was reading about her online. She doesn’t have much of a good reputation. Didn’t she keep quiet after finding out her husband had a mistress because she enjoyed the materialistic life he could provide her?”

Ronald’s caretaker slapped her lightly. “Do you really believe the gossip you read online? Both of us are caretakers, and we know how hard it is to take care of elderly patients. With how rich and huge the Larson family is, if Megan just wanted to live lavishly, why would she take up such laborious work?”

Still, her colleague didn’t seem to believe her. “Is she not putting on an act?”

“Even if she was, it would’ve been enough to fake it in front of Mr. Larson. Why would she go to such lengths? Haven’t you noticed that Mr. Larson Senior seems to be getting hospitalized more frequently recently?”

She nodded.

Between sighs, the caretaker replied, “The caretaker he has at home isn’t really responsible. Well, maybe not irresponsible, but Megan used to be more detailed. Mr. Larson Senior was well taken care of.
