“Hey, super star, I’m applying for a hotel manager position, not a hotel princess,” Freya complained.

Lily said mysteriously, “I had someone check it out. The young boss of Wesley Hotel has a heavy taste-he only likes hot chicks. I was thinking of sacrificing myself, having dinner with him, and getting you this job.

“But no way, he’s not into my type. Guess you’ll have to give it your best shot.”

“It’s just a hotel manager position. Doesn’t need your name dropped,” Freya replied.

“You don’t know,” Lily whispered, “The one you’re applying for is Wesley Hotel, the most luxurious resort in Sairo. They have high expectations for the manager. I heard this young boss has gone through over twenty managers since taking over.”

“Is he that picky?” Freya frowned.

“Exactly. Plus, he’s super mysterious. Barely shown his face these years. I had to grease some palms to get this tiny bit of info, which I’m sharing with you now.”

Buzz.

Freya’s phone vibrated.

Liam: [Have fun with Lily. Let me know when you want to come back; I’ll pick you up.

[Feel free to use my card for whatever you like. There’s no need to try to save money for me.]

Probably, he had someone really look up the flight info, confirming Lily was with her on the flight to Sairo, so he was reassured.

Lily glanced over. “Liam?”

Freya pressed the button, and her screen went black. “Yeah.”

“He’s quite generous with money.”

“What if he brings back a kid from outside for me to raise?”

Lily was shocked by her words.

She wanted to ask but was afraid to hit a sore spot, stammered for a long time but didn’t dare ask.

Freya suddenly felt quite pathetic.

Even her bestie couldn’t believe Liam had actually knocked someone up outside.

So, the whole world must have thought she and Fu had a solid relationship.

But their love was like a fancy gown-all shiny on the outside, totally moth-eaten inside.

Chapter 24

Once the plane landed, Lily dragged her straight to the Wesley Hotel, booking a room pronto.

She claimed, “How else are you gonna deliver top-notch service if you don’t walk a mile in your clients’ shoes?”

Freya thought, ‘Yeah, fair point.’ So she whipped out her passport, booked the room, and paid with the bank card her dad left her before getting locked up over debt.

“Freya, this is what Dad managed to squirrel away. Who knows if I’ll ever get out? This is the last thing I can do for you. You’re on your own from now on,” Dad said.

She’d been hanging onto that money. After her parents passed, every little thing they left behind meant the world to her.

Lily joked, “Why not swipe Liam’s card? Free money, might as well.”

“Don’t wanna give him any excuses to reach out later.”

On Sunday afternoon, Freya ordered a professional suit and black pumps online herself. Monday morning, she rocked up to the 64th-floor office area, looking sharp.

The lobby was packed with folks already waiting for their interview turns.

After a short wait, Freya noticed someone she knew.

“No way. Professor Cooper?!”

Thomas recognized her, too. “Freya? Vacationing here?”

Everyone knew she “married rich,” so even Thomas assumed she was just another rich lady on vacay.

Freya smiled. “Nope, here for a job interview.”

“Did your husband agree?”

“I do what I wanna do. He can’t stop me,” said Freya.

Thomas chuckled helplessly. “You got a fight?”

“Nope. What about you, Professor Cooper? Here for a holiday?”

Thomas spread his hands. “The rates here? Can’t afford that! There’s an academic exchange conference in Sairo, and this hotel is where they’re staying. I’m here representing the school to welcome them.”

“Got it.” Freya nodded.

“Alright, time’s ticking. Better not keep them waiting. I’m heading up first.”

“Sure.”

Chapter 24

After bidding farewell to Thomas, Freya was soon called in for the interview.

She’d done her homework online about hotel manager interviews, which mostly covered multilingual skills, manners, and most importantly, personal image.

Freya was naturally good-looking-big breasts, slim waist, long neck, super smooth skin, a total knockout.

Besides, she was polite and had natural conversations.

In terms of languages, besides her mother tongue, she’d self-taught some other languages in college, a true all-rounder.

She breezed through the first three rounds, eliminating 90% of the candidates.

Finally, only three contenders were left.

So one of them was a man, an Ivy League PhD, they said. His background was way too strong, and maybe that was what kept him until now.

The other was a young girl like Freya, but she seemed to have “inside info,” dressed in a crop top and mini skirt, super spicy.
