Liam pressed his lips together and stared at her coldly. “Freya, if we hadn’t once loved each other so much, I might almost suspect you prefer women.”

Freya replied coolly, “Think whatever you want.”

“Is Lily that important to you? Between a friend and your husband, would you choose her without hesitation?” Liam said coldly.

Freya almost wanted to laugh. “Professor Cooper and Lily are a man and a woman. In your mouth, I sound like some kind of pervert who sleeps with anyone.”

Liam explained, “I want to be the only thing in your eyes. I want to be first in your heart forever.”

Freya answered, “Then you shouldn’t threaten me with Lily. Especially not like this.”

The memory dragged up a nightmare years ago. After that incident, Lily had fallen into a deep depression for a long time.

She had attempted suicide many times, taken sleeping pills, tried to hang herself, and even nearly jumped from a rooftop.

Lily hated that ‘dirty’ version of herself. During that period, Freya and Thomas stood by her.

Thomas told her. “The ones who were wrong were the men whose hearts had turned rotten, not you. You are not ‘dirty.’ You are just a hurt, lovable girl who does not yet know how to heal.”

Lily cried, her sobs tearing from the top of the building.

She clung to Freya and cried, “Freya, I don’t want to be tormented by nightmares anymore.”

Freya patted her back and comforted her. “If you don’t want to remember it, then forget it completely. From now on, erase that day from your life. Just say you went to a party, performed, and then went back to the dorm with me and slept through the night.”

It took Lily three years to pull herself out of it. Today’s events, however, brought all of that back.

After a while, Liam said, “I had a hotel maid take Lily’s clothes off. No man touched her.”

“What did you drug her with?” Freya asked.

“Ether,” Liam replied. “Not a large dose. She should wake up in about an hour. It will not harm her body.”

Liam gently brushed a stray lock of hair behind her ear and said softly, “Freya, tell me how you managed to leave the hotel without anyone noticing despite all the surveillance.”

Freya replied, “Do you think I can turn invisible?”

“Freya, tell me the truth,” Liam said. “I must know. Otherwise you will run again and I will not be able to find

Suddenly, there was a knock at the door.

Jason, Liam’s assistant, rushed in. “Mr. Grant, I had people take apart every vent and pipe in the hotel. None of them show any sign.”

Liam mused. “It wasn’t the stairwell and it wasn’t the vents. Are you sure the hotel surveillance has no blind spots?”
