Freya fixed her hair and walked over with a smile. “May I help you, Ms. Heath? I’m the manager. You can tell me your needs or complaints, and I’ll solve them for you.”
The staff member hadn’t met Freya and was baffled by Freya claiming to be the manager. But she saw Claire.
Claire gave her a look. The staff member understood instantly, taking a slight step back to let Freya take the stage.
Herminia suddenly switched accents. Her perfectly standard English moments before were now a thick dialect.
With her eyes rolled almost to the back of her head and her finger pointing everywhere, she ranted on and on.
Finally, Herminia’s finger pointed directly at Freya’s nose. Spittle sprayed all over Freya’s face.
Claire whispered to the staff member, “What’s the deal with Ms. Heath?“.
The staff member looked pale. “She’s a big customer, but she’s very picky and loses her temper all the time.
“Today, it was just because we didn’t put those decorative fabric swans on her bed, and she thought we had snubbed her
Claire asked, “Was it really not put there?”
The staff member was helpless. “She went out this morning, so housekeeping went in to clean.
“We usually put the decorations on after cleaning the whole floor. But she came back just ten minutes after going out, before we could put them on.”
Claire nodded. “Contact housekeeping? Tell them to hurry.”
“I did, but-” The staff member pointed into the room where Freya was now crouched by the bed. “This new manager seems to have made one.”
Not only did Freya make a swan, but she also made an elephant, a giraffe, a rabbit, and two birds. The row of little animal figures was neatly arranged by the bed, looking cute and orderly.
Freya stood up and replied in the same dialect. It sounded like she was from the same place as Herminia.
Herminia was also surprised. “You’re from Tennese too? Your dialect is quite good.”
“My mother is from Tennese. I lived there for a while as a child,” Freya said.
Herminia’s expression softened considerably. “You’re new here?”
“Yes, I just started today, Ms. Brandt. You can find me for any needs you have in the future. I’ll handle them for you, to your satisfaction.”
“Then you come make these bed decorations for me every day. They’re quite pretty.”
Claire was about to remind Freya that while it was vital to serve customers well, she shouldn’t agree to every unreasonable request. It would only encourage difficult guests to push further.
“Mrs. Grant–Claire started to speak but was interrupted.
Ryan walked over. “What’s going on?”

Chapter 44
Claire briefed him on the situation, adding with concern, “She met such a difficult client on her first day. She’ll probably have to sacrifice her holidays to serve her from now on.”
Ryan raised an eyebrow. “Her? She’s as sly as a fox–wasn’t likely to get the short end of the stick.”
As soon as he finished speaking, they heard Freya say to Herminia, “I have days off too, so I can’t guarantee I’ll come personally every day.
“But I will teach the housekeeping staff how to make these. They will change them for you with new ones every day from
now on.”
