Chapter 49
Jason got busted red–handed, and the call dropped dead.
Liam was pissed–he’d been glued to the line, soaking up Freya’s voice, and poof, gone.
It took forever for Jason to call back. “Mr. Grant, they totally made me.”
Liam kept his cool but laid into him. “I told you to stay sneaky! How’d you screw the pooch that quick?
2014
Jason sounded all butt–hurt. “Ms. Stone’s to blame–she shot me a text asking where you were. Screen lit up for a split second, and boom, Ms. Hall nailed me.”
Liam swallowed a lungful of frustration.
“Block her number. Now.”
“You sure? She’s carrying your kid, Mr. Grant. What if there’s an emergency and she can’t reach anyone…?”
Liam shut that down. “Relax–Mom and Dad are watching her like a hawk. She won’t need you.”
Jason sighed. “Alright, doing it right away.”
“Listen…” Liam thought back to that eavesdropped bit of Freya and Lily’s talk, and a smile tugged at his lips. “If Freya sneaks in some shopping later, just look the other way, got it?”
Jason asked, “The shirt thing?”
“Whatever–just play dumb. No busting her.”
Jason slapped his forehead. “Oh, right–Mr. Grant, your wedding anniversary’s next month! How’d I blank on that?”
Liam melted into the seat. “Damn straight. Big day. She’s got a surprise brewing for me, so I need to nail a gift that I blow her away.”
Jason said, “Figure she’s softening up–knows you’re the real deal for her, so she’s making the first move to close the distance.”
That hit Liam right in the feels.
All the gloom from before? Evaporated. He was jacked up like he’d mainlined caffeine.
“Jason, get on those Brence roses–order a truckload, then line up gardeners to fill the sunroom back home. Oh, and make it a daily thing: scoop up every rose in Sairo and overnight ‘em to Mrs. Grant’s room. Also, pass on my thanks to Ryan–he must’ve put in a good word with Freya, turned the tide for me.”
Jason answered, “You got it–I’ll relay the shout–out to Mr. Reed. But…”
“But what?”
“…Ms. Hall clocked me with her heel. That count as on–the–job injury?”
Click. Liam pocketed the phone, still riding high.
He sauntered inside, humming under his breath.

Chapter 49
Flinging open the closet, he dragged out his entire shirt collection. “Rose, trash these tomorrow–all of ‘em.”
Rose blinked. “Every last one? Then what’re you gonna throw on, sir?”
Liam grinned. “Won’t be long–Freya’s gearing up to kit me out with new ones.”
Sairo, Wesley Hotel.
Lily threw the bedroom door’s deadbolt with a vengeance.
“Liam’s a total creep–spying on our girl talk like some perv.”
Freya had pretty much filed Liam away in the mental attic by now.
Shout–out to Ryan for drowning her in tasks: mornings rigging his bed with a whole zoo of plush critters, lunch runs to his door, evenings wrestling his dogs on leashes-
