She wondered, ‘Why did I dream of that?
‘Ghosts gunning for payback–did that shit actually exist?
‘Nah. Get real.
‘Poison was all Joseph. And that jerky? Liam shoveled it down Sherri’s throat himself.
‘I didn’t so much as lift a finger–just tossed the idea out to Madison on the phone.
‘And I damn sure didn’t twist their arms to make it happen!
“This whole nightmare? Had jack shit to do with me!‘
“Oh, sir–perfect timing! Your wife’s just woken up from a bad dream. Go on and soothe her, why don’t you?”
The nurse flashed a warm smile at Liam, but his face was thunder–dark, jaw set like stone.
One look at him, and Natalie’s stomach dropped. She was in deep shit.
She huddled deeper under the blankets, mumbling, “Lammy…
Liam dragged a chair over and planted himself beside the bed, legs crossed, eyes drilling into her like lasers.
It creeped her out bad. “Stop staring like that–it’s freaking me out.”
“Natalie.”
“What?”
His voice was scarily level, laced with a razor–sharp chill that cut like a ghost’s whisper. “I’ve scheduled your procedure for today. They’ll come get you for the OR soon.”
“Procedure? What kind?”
“Abortion,”
Her eyes bugged out in shock; she bolted upright. “You’re gonna kill our baby?”
He drew a deep breath. “I’ll write you a check–fill in whatever number you want. It’ll cover your parents retirement, wipe out your brother’s gambling debts. Pocket some for yourself too. Hell, I can call in favors abroad, line up a full–ride study program overseas.”
“No way! This baby’s everything to me–I can’t just flush him away!”
“Natalie, this is me telling you. Not asking.”
The fight drained right out of her.
“Lammy, how can you? It’s yours too–right here in my belly!”
He let the quiet hang heavy, then added, “Name anything else you want. Nothing crazy, and I’ll make it happen.”

Chapter 65
She gawked at him, heartbroken. “Did Ms. Harper make you do this?”
His head snapped up. “Keep her out of your mouth. This has zilch to do with her–she’s innocent as hell!”
“You’re still riding to her rescue.”
“She’s my wife. Damn right I am.”

Natalie laughed, but it came out brittle and wrong. “First time you’ve remembered that? When we were all tangled up. swapping those steamy messages–your ring suddenly slip your mind?”
“That’s Freya’s and my business,” he bit out, cold as a blade. “We’ll sort it. Butt out.”
“But you’re the one ripping this baby away!”
“I said I’d make it right–money, whatever. And the surgeon’s top–tier; you’ll have solid odds at carrying kids down the line if you want a family someday.”
