The door to the Lock’s chamber groaned open like a coffin lid. I walked in behind Lucien, his aura already spreading like rot and smoke, thick with pride and bloodlust. I could feel it. So could they.
The Lock.
The five most ancient vampires beneath Lucien’s command. Older than cities. Deadlier than plague. And petty as fuck.
They looked up, each face varying shades of smug and hungry. Damael twirled a vial of glittering red. Valira licked her lips and grinned when she saw me. Kareth, silent as ever, just stared. Ezekiel’s fingers steepled like he was already planning torture.
Lucien didn’t say a word. Just set the chalice down on the center of the table with a clink.
Valira’s gaze narrowed. “That isn’t…”
Lucien nodded once, his lips curling. “Raelith’s chalice. The bond is sealed. Vaela and I are one.”
For a heartbeat, there was silence. Not rage. Not judgment. Just envy. Damael’s laugh was light and hollow. “You greedy bastard. You always get the best toys.”
Ezekiel leaned forward, eyeing the chalice like it might whisper secrets. “You completed the bond without us present.”
Kareth tilted his head. “Selfish.”
Valira practically purred. “And delicious. I bet the power feels like fire under your skin. I wonder…” Her eyes flicked to Vaela’s neck. “Is she going to let us taste?”
Lucien’s gaze darkened. “She is mine. I don’t share.”
Valira’s smile twisted. “You never share.”
“Then find your own, Lucien snapped.
“Oh we intend to, Ezekiel said coolly. “That’s why we’re here.”
Damael’s eyes gleamed with dark amusement. “You’ve started something, Lucien. You bonded with a queen. We want our own. Pureblooded. Powerful. Bound by Raelith’s rites. You and Vaela will provide.”
“Beasts. Lycans. Wolves, Kareth murmured, voice low and sharp. “Fae would do. No humans.”
“Bring them to us,” Valira added, her eyes glowing. “Make them willing, or don’t bother bringing them at all.”
Vaela entered just then, cloaked in crimson, the blood mark of Raelith glowing faintly along her ribcage. She slid beside Lucien, her eyes alight with savage pride. ‘Of course. You will have your candidates.”
Lucien looked at her, and whatever passed between them was pure dark ecstasy, shared madness and power made flesh. I stood there

silent, a shadow among shadows, while Sierra rumbled in my mind.
“They’re building an army,” she growled. “Not for power. For a purge.”
Lucien raised the chalice, red liquid shimmering like sin in candlelight. “To Raelith. May her hunger guide us.”
The Lock echoed the words like a prayer, though it sounded more like a curse. And me? I stood in the middle of the world’s most dangerous monsters.

Pretending to belong. I stood still, my expression carved from stone, as The Lock descended into their usual sinister banter, the kind that dripped with cruelty, pride, and zero fucking morality. They were lounging now, sipping blood as if it were wine, giddy off Lucien’s bond with Vaela like it was the second coming of Raelith herself.
“Experiment Forty Two,” Damael began, swirling a glass of glowing crimson, “survived the marrow extraction. Fae spliced tissue held up better than expected. The child screamed for seven minutes straight before the vocal cords ruptured.”
Laughter echoed around the room like damn hyenas. Sierra snarled in my mind. “That was a kid. You heard that. You fucking felt it.” I didn’t flinch. I just listened.
Kareth tapped his claws on the marble table. “The Hollow Creed has delivered another shipment. Mostly beast hybrids. We’ve started augmenting reflexes with shock magic. Muscle tearing is extensive but… repairable.”
