Chapter 176
(35)
Taya Quinn POV
Infiltrating Duskwell
The second our boots hit the charred dirt outside Duskwell, I felt Zuki stir inside me. Not just a twitch or a growl, a full bodied snarl that shook down my spine like thunder.
“This place reeks of wrong. Death. Blood. Innocence torn apart. I hate it.” She snarled.
“Yeah, babe, same,” I muttered, glancing around at the others.
Rylen crouched beside me, scanning the perimeter with that dead serious beta brain of his. His dark eyes were all business, every muscle coiled like he was ready to shift on the damn spot. Jace knelt next to a busted stone marker, blades already in hand, his eyes glinting with barely restrained chaos. Amaris stood tall and calm, her robes already shimmering with a quiet glamor spell to shield us from visual
detection.
I tapped my comm crystal. “Team Alpha at edge of Duskwell. Terrain is ruined. Burned out village remnants. Something massive tore this place apart. Proceeding in silent formation.”
We moved like shadows, low, fast, and coordinated. The smell hit first. Not just rot. Not just blood. It was old magic. Dark magic. Sticky, cursed, vile shit that made Zuki go full rage mode in my head. “They bled something here. Over and over. Children, Taya. There are still screams trapped in the walls.”
I blinked back tears and clenched my jaw. “Keep it together. We’re getting them out. I swear it.”
We came to the edge of what looked like a crumbling orphanage or maybe a school, whatever it was, the roof was half gone, and a spiral of runes glowed faintly under the ash.
Jace held up a hand. “Hold. Movement. Left side.”
We crouched, and I activated the discreet crystal cam on my chest, zooming in.
Four vamps. Two Hollow Creed bastards. One… something else. Bigger. Stronger. Mutated.
Rylen leaned toward me. “That’s not a normal vamp. That’s one of their bred soldiers. Hybrid maybe.”
“Recording it,” I whispered. “Fucking hell.”
Inside the building, through the busted walls, I caught movement. Small figures. Chained. Weak. One looked up. A kid. Her eyes met mine through the cracked stone, and it was like being struck by lightning.
Zuki went deadly still in my head. ‘If we don’t get them out soon, they’ll be gone. No wolf, no soul, just bloodbags. Move faster.” She whispered.
Amaris whispered a spell and captured a full three dimensional layout of the ruins. “Blueprint secured. Sending now.”
Rylen tapped his comm. “Mission control, this is Beta Verric. We’ve confirmed prisoners, children. Vamp presence heavy. Recommend high force exfil plan. Uploading footage now.”

Chapter 176
:
I crouched lower, watching that little girl as she knelt and whispered to another kid beside her. No tears. No begging. Just… hollow
acceptance.
“Not for long,” I swore under my breath.
Zuki growled softly, “We tear the whole place down when this is over. Bone by bone.”
Rylen nodded. “Fall back. We’ve got what we need. Now we prep for war.”
Jace cast one last look at the hybrids, mouth curling into something vicious. “I’m bringing the big blades next time.”
We ghosted back into the treeline, leaving no trace. But I knew in my soul, Duskwell wouldn’t survive what was coming.
And neither would the ones who hurt those kids.
