Hunted Hybrid Aegis War Saga 1

Chapter 183

(35)

I sat at the long obsidian war table, fingers laced tightly in my lap while my mates filled the room with strength I couldn’t seem to summon. The walls pulsed with soft dragon runes, glowing faintly like the heartbeat of this ancient place. Fireborn and Starborn Fae lined the left flank. My mates stood on the right, Bram, Daxon, Lachlan, Vaelrix. Standing there like the sexy Gods they absolutely were. And the dragonsgods, the dragons stood behind us like mountains of muscle and old magic.

I need everyone’s attention,Daxon’s voice boomed, command etched into every word. The rescue is complete. Sixty two children were pulled out. All survived.

The room erupted into murmurs, shocked and grateful, but wary.

They weren’t just caged,Bram growled. They were tortured. Tested on. Fucking broken.

I blinked hard, forcing back the burn behind my eyes. Not now. I had to be the anchor. But my hands wouldn’t stop trembling. Vaelrix stepped forward, his massive form towering in front of the table, emerald braids glinting in the light.

The children are being stabilized in the medic tents. We’ve transformed the west wing of the castle into a safe haven for them. Fifty rooms with beds, toys, games, and warded walls. There’s a garden play area. A small school. Tutors, nannies, female Fae and dragons standing by. Some have already offered to adopt.

I finally looked up, my eyes wide. Adopt? My voice cracked.

Vaelrix met my gaze. They’ve already claimed several. Said the moment they saw them, they knew.

Lachlan, at my side, reached for my hand under the table and gave it a firm squeeze. The bairns will be loved, mo ghrà. Noone othem will ever sleep alone again.

I exhaled slowly. Steady, El. Steady. The comm crystal at my hip sparked to life, glowing a soft silver. Luna Aelira’s face shimmered into

view.

Elowen, she said gently, you’re not alone in this.

I know,I whispered.

She nodded once. We received another message. From Soria.

The room fell silent.

She says, They know about Duskfall. We are safe. No one suspects. A human was killed as the traitor. They plan to strike soon. Stay ready. Love, Soria and Varek.

Lachlan let out a slow breath. She’s still wius, then.

Gods,Bram muttered, gripping the back of a chair. They’re walking through hell just to stay alive.

She’s a fucking hero,Daxon said simply.

And Varek,I added, surprising myself. He could’ve chosen safety. Power. But he didn’t. He chose this, he chose to stand with Soria. Who is he? I want Intel on this Varek.

Daxon nodded, I’ll get someone on it.

We protect them,Vaelrix said. And we move fast.

Agreed,Luna Aelira’s voice crackled. I’ll coordinate the scouts to keep eyes on the other compounds. You focus on the children. They’ll need more than healing spells. They’ll needhome.

I nodded. We’re already working on it. The west wing is being warded with calming magic and safety runes. We’re keeping the lights soft, the food warm, and music playing around the clock.

I’ve assigned three dragon elder females as guardians for the night hours,Vaelrix added. They’ve already memorized all sixty two

names.

Lachlan leaned in, his voice quieter. That one lad. The dragon hybridthe one withe slitted eyes. Has he spoken?

Only through Marnok,I murmured. He’snot well. But he’s in there. I can feel it.

Rylen, who stood with Taya near the door, finally spoke up. What about defense? We’re still vulnerable here.

Daxon stepped forward. Ashrian and Lachlan will begin ward reinforcement. Vaelrix is assembling the Iron Wing to protect the castle from above. Bram and I will divide our forces, half here, half at the Stormclaw Keep. We’ll rotate weekly. No one gets complacent.

Taya cleared her throat. And the kidswe’ll need a rotation for emotional support. Walks, time in the gardens, storytelling, connection.

Amaris piped up from behind her, I’ll do art therapy. And fairy tale time. I call dibs.
