I Bought the exiled king (by Natalie Winter) novel Chapter 10

Chapter 10

Valencia

I had a hard time believing my ears.

Was he being honest about it? I mean I knew I looked decent but nothing ravishing like those daughters of alphas who acted like the world revolved around them.

They dressed exquisite, and their skin was flawless.

I kept looking at him, waiting for him to chuckle and call it a joke. But he didn’t.

“You barely know me” I whispered, and he replied.

“I am working on that part” He said, and I felt goosebumps appear on my skin.

“I keep imagining you would one day just not show up or get tired of this pretend game” I said something out aloud that I had not even accepted myself yet.

The fear in my voice was evident.

I was not sure what this was, but it felt like a new normal I wouldn’t mind coming home to every day.

“I am not going anywhere, my lady.” He said and then added, “Unless you ask me to. You see, I take this internship very, very seriously.”

“So you would do anything I said?” I asked, just to be sure.

“Anything,” He answered and I suddenly couldn’t breathe.

“So, if I ask you to kiss me, will you?”

I felt his Adam’s apple bob and his gaze strayed away from my eyes and towards my lips that were slightly open.

“Your wish is my command, my lady.”

I could have just ordered him to fulfill my wildest fantasies, but I felt like it would be too easy.

But I didn’t want a puppet who would dance to my tunes.

I wanted him to want me too.

Maybe loneliness was turning me insane.

I shoved that thought away and replied, “You know my name, where I work and where I live, but I know next to nothing about you. I don’t even know your name, that is not fair.”

His eyes twitched as if he debated what he should answer.

Somebody so good looking would not simply offer to do a random girl’s chores and cook for her. As alluring he was, I didn’t want to end up dead in my apartment.

“My full name is quite long but you can call me lan”

1/4

“lan?” I repeated, and he nodded. “Yes, my close friends called me that, but now they all are busy.”

“Is your last name Somerhalder, by any chance?” I teased, and he chuckled.

“No, sadly. It’s just Ian.”

“Okay, just lan. What do you do?” I asked, and he answered.

“You know that already. I serve the entire kingdom and you found me at Wolves and Whiskey.”

I tapped a finger on my chin as if trying to connect the dots.

“Are you some undercover agent working in secret to expose criminals or something and you do the call boy thing as a side gig?”

He nodded, “There, you have me all figured out”

“So you also are connected to the Bureau but are working on something highly classified”

“Bingo”

Okay, that was easy to guess.

“But why the secrecy with me? You know everything about me.”

At that, he shook his head. “Not everything. And we were discussing how I can get to know you better, but then you steered the conversation in some other direction.”

I folded my hands on my chest.

“And now you are steering it back?”

“Precisely”

“I would have loved to go back to the massage but my tyrant boss now wants to bully me” I said, not giving in to the temptation of kissing him.

IT would be too easy then.

I wanted him to work for it.

So I walked back to the bed and replied, “so help me fall asleep.”

“As you say, my lady”

He said and didn’t even hesitate as I slipped in the bed. He got in right beside me and snuggled in, pulling me close.

“Will this help?” He asked, and I murmured “Mmm”

I felt my body settle against his and realized my small frame fit perfectly against his, a bit too perfectly.

He was all hard muscle, but surprisingly, he didn’t crush my bones when I snuggled further into his arms.

“I want you to promise me to never take another client,” I said, grabbing his collar.

This was just mine. I wasn’t going to share this with anybody else.

But He began, and I placed a finger on his lips to silence him.

“No ifs and buts. You belong to me,” I said with a conviction I didn’t completely feel.

But then his eyes shone after hearing those lines and his loose grip on my waist tightened just a little.

“As you say, my lady,” He said and murmured against my car.

My gaze flitted to the clock and to my dismay, it was already 2 am. It was tempting to ask him to do more than just sleep, but then Mrs Briggs would eat me alive if I was late again.

“I will just ask for a goodnight kiss then,” I said, and he obliged by bringing his hand under my chin and lifting it just a little before leaning down.
