Huh
What was that about?
And talking of Killian, why had she handed me that specific salve the other night? I had yet to ask her that question.
It had slipped out of my mind with the patient trying to choke me to death and Sarah giving me a cold shoulder.
I realized coming face to face with her batch mates had just made her realize that she was left behind and was acting out but I truly missed the swear word butchering friend of mine.
Even my being the Blessed One hadn’t deterred her from wanting to be my friend, so why would this slowpoke Abby affect
her so much?
Frustrated, I hovered around the desk, wondering if I should follow her.
From the corner of my eye, I could see Abby snickering. She seemed glad about my fallout with Sarah, if I could even call it
that.
Chloe, meanwhile, fussed over the star of the century but got treated like a servant by the overachiever.
“Come on now, Chloe, If you cant even tell a root from a stem, you should just go back to being a Novice.”
Chloe grew teary eyed and her face turned red.
“No, please don’t send me away.”
Abby saw me watching them so grabbed an empty flask and hurled it at her.
“Shut up and keep the ingredients sorted and prepare everything for tomorrow. I will go get some sleep”
Abby ordered her like Chloe was her personal slave and Chloe nodded all too eagerly.
I shook my head and walked away from the table. I headed towards the resting chamber and saw Sarah wiping her face
with a towel.
But she looked away upon seeing me,
So even I didn’t bother trying to chat with her.
It was no fault of mine that she failed her exams and she didn’t have to take her frustration out on me. I was just trying to help.
Thinking that, I walked right past her and went to the bathroom for a quick shower. Unlike Nina’s quarters, the apothecary had a resting, eating and even a bathing space attached to it instead of having to go all the way back to the quarters outside the temple.

Chapter 109
Maybe it was because Amara was an Elder, so got to enjoy higher perks or maybe because there were sick people around,
so those facilities were the bare minimum.
I washed and changed into another gown and wanted to head back to rest my back a little. It was late and most of the temple workers had retired to bed.
And I wasn’t feeling particularly fond of Sarah or Killian either. Plus my back and body felt sore. I had been running up and down doing the work Amara assigned us all day and solving Sarah’s issues.
I needed a break.
So while wiping my hair, I decided to just go sleep and give myself some much deserved rest.
The mattress was thin, and the blanket was even thinner, no thicker than the bedsheet, but it was better than nothing.
I snuggled into the bed and instantly all the muscles in my body reminded me of how each of them hurt and cried for my
attention.
But I was so tired that my eyes fluttered shut, and soon I was surrounded by darkness.
I shifted in my sleep and felt the thin blanket being pulled down my leg.
I tugged on one end sleepily and pulled it back up.
But it slipped down again. I could feel the fabric slowly moving down my ankle and yanked at it too hard.
It came flying up and hit my face, almost suffocating me.
“Sarah, if this is you,” I groaned in my sleep, but then I felt a hand on my ankle. The grip was stronger and far more
masculine.
Before I knew, that grip yanked me down the cot and I landed on my butt upon the cold floor.
“What the…” I barely opened my eyes to open and see who it was but felt something sting my cheek.
Someone slapped me hard.
“You should die,” I heard a growl, and the next time I opened my eyes, I saw a set of teeth inches from my face.
Glearning yellow and sharp.
Timmediately pushed back, or tried to, but my head slammed against the hard cave wall.
Patient number thirty three had somehow sneaked into the resting chambers of the Novices, found my bed and returned
to hurt me.
He kept repeating how I should die and kept trying to hurt me but his body wasn’t really listening to him because he
looked a little disoriented.
“Help!!” I screamed, but I realized I was the only one in the room.

And he had closed the door, the only entry or exit point available to me and blocking it.
I got up, swaying on my feet a little, and held my hand to my head coz it was throbbing as if someone had just hammered
“Look, relax. You don’t want to do this.”
