Chapter 111

Valencia

He ran up the stairs while laughing like a maniac. I had frozen for a second, but the moment he lashed out with his hand, my body jumped back into action.

The tip of his claw came close to me, too close. I barely missed becoming blind by a hair’s breadth as I stumbled back and my body leaned backward to avoid his attack.

Stop right there, VikElder Amara shouted in a loud voice, and patient number thirty three stopped for a second.

He slowly turned back to look at the elder priestess looking at him with a mix of emotions on her face.

There was confusion, pity and also concern. I didn’t have time to wait to decipher more of her emotions because my pursuer blinked his eyes and the confusion on his face morphed into the earlier bloodlust.

I started climbing up again even if my legs felt like lead. Elder Amara was wise and senior, but I doubted she could climb up all these floors so fast.

I was on my own.

So I kept forcing my body to run even if my muscles groaned and protested against me. Elder Amara shouted something again but her voice was drowned under the cacophony of noises.

1looked at the small vial of some herb that I was still holding and decided to slow him down a little.

He was inching closer, but I still waited.

Sheesh, what are you doing? Run!I heard a familiar voice and looked behind to see Sarah staring at the guy with fear.

Despite the fear trying to squeeze my heart, I managed to smile.

You are finally talking to me!

But her eyes widened, and she pointed ahead.

Watch out

I turned my head just in time to see his face inches from mine with his claws outstretched. His claws and his teeth were gleaming wildly and I heard Sarah cry out.

Duck!

But I lifted my hand high in the air and smashed that bottle hard upon his face. He had not expected an attack from such a close range, and his eyes had been open,

So, the glass flask smashed on his face, and bits of glass got into his eyes.

Argh!!

He let out a pained howl and went down on all fours as I staggered back to grab Sarah and push her from harm’s way.

“What are you doing here?I asked as she inspected me.

I was just taking a night stroll outside because I couldn’t sleep,She answered and looked at me guiltily.

I am just glad you are okay,I said, and she smiled.

My heart soared a little. It looked like my friend had not completely abandoned me.

We could not chat more because I had enraged the werewolf even further. He was howling loudly and thrashing on the

stairs.

He could not stand straight and tumbled down a few steps.

What is happening to him?Sarah asked as we both stood by the edge of the staircase and peered down to look at him.

I don’t know, but it looks like he is trying to transform completely

His back hunched, and he began twisting and turning at odd angles as his limbs elongated. His eyes turned yellow, and it looked like his muscles were tearing apart.

His scream was ear splitting, and several women placed hands on their ears to drown the noise.

I should be running, but somehow my feet were glued to the spot as I watched him turn into a werewolf as if it was some sickly fascination.

I had been surrounded by werewolves but never saw one transform. I had only heard tales of their strength and how spectacular it was to let your inner wolf out and run.

My morbid curiosity saw me lean further down to watch him even when Sarah began tugging at my elbow.

Enough, come on. He will be faster with four feet

Logic told me she was right, but my stupid childhood dream was coming alive, and I was too greedy to let the chance

slide.

I had been observing him so keenly that I didn’t even see Elder Amara climb up the stairs and reach him.

No, Vik, no stop it. Please don’t

She was clutching her chest and extended her hand to touch him. But Vik was in no condition to respond.

His body kept twitching and twisting as fur began to sprout all over his skin. He howled yet again and banged his head against the railing, that got a dent and almost broke in two.

I watched in a daze as he jumped in the air, his hands stretching and his mouth opening up to howl loudly.

And when he jumped down, he broke a few stairs but he was completely covered in fur.

His transition was complete.
