I Bought the exiled king (by Natalie Winter) novel Chapter 28

Chapter 28

Valencia

I told you that one of my classmates has been asking about you and you never asked me even once about his name,

I threw my head back.

I don’t want to know his nameI groaned, but she chirped like an excited bird.

I am going to tell you, anyway. His name is Thomas, and he has been asking about you.”

Thomas?I repeated, and she jumped up and down, making a few passer bys give us weird looks.

Oh, you know him. That’s cool. Very cool, she said in a cheerful tone.

Sophia, I told you, I don’t want to talk about him or anybody else.

She huffed. Yeah, you just want to mope about your intern/callboy/ psychopath murderer and chronic liar and want him to strangle you to death the next time he is here to kidnap you.

I gave her a look, and she grabbed me by the shoulders.

What is wrong with you? He lied to you, won’t give you any details about him, and you are missing him already? Just because he kissed you? Forget about his existence. Focus on Thomas. He works in the Bureau, right?

I nodded absentmindedly.

Yeah

Cool, because he messaged me all over social media saying that he wanted to reconnect. And at first, I thought I am not into you boy, shoo, but then he casually began asking about other friends of mine and if anybody also worked in the Bureau. I took your name and bam, there was no stopping him.

Sophia began to tell me all the things she could recall about Thomas and her other high school friends, but I was not even remotely interested.

It is so cool that he also works in

your office, so you guys have a lot more in common.

Hm,I mumbled, and she snapped her fingers in front of me.

I guess you should really meet him

Duh. I meet him every day at the office,I reminded her, and she amended her previous line.

I meant outside the office, in a more informal setting. Say like a cafe or a pub.”

I groaned. My legs had already begun to feel tired, given all the walking we had done all day.

Sophia got a call on her phone so she attended to it while I only hovered around her, looking around absent mindedly.

There were quite a few people in the mall, given that it was the weekend. And in the food court there were plenty of couples too.

My gaze drifted to a sweet couple where they were having ice cream and the guy was feeding the girl with a spoon.

That somehow reminded me of lan and how he had forced me to eat.

I tore my gaze away from them and my eyes fell on a random stranger walking in some store.

And my heart fluttered at the thought of having found lan.

So, I just rushed behind the man who disappeared from my view.

He was wearing black and quite tall, but then that color didn’t particularly stand out in the crowd, so feared I would lose him

Hence, I ran as fast as I could as the man exited the store and then began walking towards the lift.

No, lan!!

I shouted, but he could not hear me.

I collided with a bunch of people as I ran and somehow reached the lift.

But not before it had already opened and everybody had walked in.

I was gasping for breath as I pressed on the buttons too hard, almost punching it, but the lift’s door didn’t open,

I looked around and spotted the nearest stair so climbed it up fast, hoping to reach the lift before it climbed back up.

It was a race against time, but I kept pushing and pressed on the button on the top floor an unhealthy number of times.

Luckily, the doors opened, and I saw a sea of faces staring at me.

My lungs were burning as I scanned through the crowd, but couldn’t see him at first.

lan, are you there?I asked, my voice sounding raspy.

The man standing right in front of me asked.

Are you coming in or not?

I looked back through the crowd again and finally saw the black shirt guy but he was facing the opposite side. The lift had glass walls and you could see outside from the inside.

And the guy was also holding the hands of some girl.

Annoyed, I pushed inside, ignoring the deathly stares they all gave me and yanked at the black shirted man’s hand a bit too hard.

How dare you, lan?

I asked, but when the man turned around, I saw it was not him.

Both the man and the girl stared at me in confusion as I put a hand to my mouth.
