Chapter 38
Valencia
I didn’t quite understand what he meant. But then I hadn’t fought wars or seen my loved ones die in front of my eyes.
There was sadness in his eyes. One you couldn’t fake.
I felt a twinge of pity for him, but he noticed my expressions and added, “Don’t give me that look”
I walked towards one of the chairs and sat on it to give myself something to do.
lan, too, was staring outside the window as if he had drifted to another world. And I observed him while he was looking away.
This man that I had bought as a boy toy, this man who had cleaned my room and done the dishes he was not a random guy.
He was a fucking prince of this kingdom. It was hard to wrap my head around that.
“You are a literal prince. Like a real prince of this kingdom?” I asked, unable to help mysell.
“I am one of the many kids that the king had in search of his true heir that would find the witch and bring her back to us so that we could force her to reverse the curse. Or at least tell us what it took to break it.”
I shifted uncomfortably in my seat.
“How many brothers…or sisters do you have?”
“Living, a few.”
That answer made me stare at him.
way he answered the question told me there were far more dead siblings than alive.
Did that mean his father has a concubine of some sorts? Did he even know who his mother was?
I shuddered at that thought as unease crept up through me.
“You aren’t very good at faking emotions. All your thoughts are written plainly over your face.”
lan answered, and I heard myself say.
“I am so sorry
lan smiled in response.
“It’s okay.”
I clarified. “For everything that’s happened to you. Not my inability to guard my expressions.”
He nodded thoughtfully.
“Ahh. I see. Well, it is not required. We are used to war and mayhem, but frankly, I am sick of it.”
“Uh, so this witch…Morwenna, right? I take it you didn’t find her. But why did you bring me here?”
“Because you are her last living heir.”

“What?” I exclaimed in shock and stood up from the seat.
That couldn’t be possible..
“You are mistaking me for someone else.” I tried to explain.
“I have never met a witch, nor had I ever heard the name Morwenna before today.”
However, lan shook his head
“I know it is hard for you to believe it but you are her descendant. The last living descendant of witch Morwenna.”
I looked at him nervously.
“And you expect me to awaken some powers and magically cure this kingdom of the curse you mentioned?”
I had no powers. I was a lawyer at best. There was not a drop of magic in me.
“I am not related to this witch. Please trust me.”
I answered, to which he replied, “I knew you would find it hard to believe. But let me show you something.”
He said and headed towards the door.
“Hey, where are you going?”
I asked, and he was already outside the door.
“They say a witch’s blood is powerful. And that its dormant powers are passed down from a generation to the other. Even if the person isn’t aware of the magic in themselves, it is very much there. We weren’t able to find the witch, but we found something powerful.”
“What did you find?”
“A vial of her blood. Where we found that is a story for another time. Even a drop of a witch’s blood is very potent. So to build this house, we used one precious drop of blood that we added to a bucket full of bricks. Mind you, just one.”
He said and raised a finger.
“And what does that have to do with me?” I asked, growing curious.
“You are in the house of your ancestor. Blood speaks to blood. Try doing something.”
I looked around.
The house didn’t call out to me, nor did I feel anything strange.
“Like what?”
He shrugged. “Like calling out her name?”
I snorted. “Morwenna!! Hey!! Look, your great great granddaughter is here!!”
I shouted aloud to the house as if it would react to me.

tan only kept watching me hopefully
Thad raced my hands to the sides and upward as if I was about to embrace the ceiling,
I shouted Morwenna’s name a few more times, but nothing happened. There was no gust of wind, no cracking of windows or creaking of doors.
Het my hands fall to the sides, and they slapped my thighs as I looked at him and repeated
See, nothing is happening”
lan looked around, puzzled, and murmured.
“No, you are not doing it right. Try again.”
tried already,” I countered.
This was starting to feel stupid to me.
“lan, I sympathize with you, but you are blinded by your need to find a cure to the curse. I am not who you think. Just tell me the way home, and I will help you whoever it is you need.”
But lan shook his head.
“It is you, it has to be you.”
“How can you be so sure?” I asked, and he looked up at me.
“Because the witch was known to have only one identification mark. Just one.”
I cocked an eyebrow.
“And what might that be?”
“A mole that was almost shaped like a star. Just under the collarbone.”
I stared at him in shock.
“I dont have it”
“You do. However, it only shows up when you are feeling heightened emotions. Like you are now.”
