Chapter 50
Valencia
The grass rustled, and I crouched back in fear. Those large red fiery eyes seemed to have disappeared behind the tall goess and shrubs.
Hecked left and right, but the grass had stopped rustling. I held my breath for long, wondering if they had put something in my drink to make mon
I slowly dared to look ahead again and spotted a few people walking away
Was the feast of Seranthyne over already?
Where was Killian?
away.
Trecalled him and Martin going to a comer to talk. Killian had disappeared after that
Had Martin hurt him and then come after me for how the disrespect he said we caused him?
I peered through the bushes again. No search parties had been sent for me it seemed.
Was I on my own?
Tooked up at the sky
The night was growing dark, and the bonfire had died down completely. My hallucinating brain had seen those red eyes, I guessed, because I didn’t see them again.
Cursing my stupid brain for scaring me, I got up from the muddy patch and began slowly treading towards the castle and away from the forest.
I had not realed how far I had run away from the feast in my y haste to get away from Martin, because it looked quite far from where I was
Also, given the fact that I had been running before but limping now, my speed was even lower.
My body started to hurt all over again, and my tongue felt like sandpaper as it grazed my teeth. Sweat had soaked my dress and when I looked down at my feet, they were covered in dirt intermixed with blood.
Lignored the pain that shot up my leg and continued to walk. By the time I came out of the dense forest, the dark night had been left behind and I could see the advent of dawn.
Just how big was the forest when I could literally see the lanterns and bonfire from here? Had I been walking in circles all this time?
Or maybe my head was dizzy, and I couldn’t focus. Either way, it was a herculean task to finally be out of the tall trees and into the huge expanse of land covered with just shrubs and bushes
At least the forest was behind me now.
Dragging one foot behind the other, I reached the clearing where the bonfire had been lit. There was nobody around.
I could walk towards the stone house Killian had said was mine, but before that I needed to catch my breath.
So I sat on the stone seats and wiped away the swat dripping down my temples with the back of my hand.
While taking in lungfuls of air, I realized that indeed the patch of trees beyond the grass was quite far from here.
And now that I was relatively salle anger began to use inside of me again. I wanted to find Martin and twist his neck with my bare hands
He just couldn’t wait until dawn and had already begun his hunt in which I was his prey. It was pure luck that I had run away into the forest,

Thad to leave this god forsaken place and never return here again. But my body was aching horribly, and i still didn’t know where the entry or exit was
“Valencial?” I suddenly heard a familiar voice cry not my name.
“Killiani tam herell” shouted and saw him run towards me with a worried expression,
“Shat What happened to you?” He asked and immediately pulled me into his arms.
“Martin, forest” I pointed at the forest and tiled to get words out, but I was so dame exasperated I hardly could form coherent sentences anymore.
I tried getting up hot my legs turned to jelly and I collapsed, but he held me close.
“Shit. Let us get you cleaned up first.”
saying so, he lifted me up in his arms and clung
og to him because I was afraid I would fall and injure my already sprained leg even more.
After hours of fighting for my safety, the adrenaline seemed to have died down the moment I slipped into his arms, I buried my face in his chest and heard him whisper
“You are safe now. I am sorry, I couldn’t arrive sooner.
Where had he been all this time? I wanted to ask but instead I croaked.
“Water”
I thought he was taking me to my stone house, but instead I saw him walking in the direction of the castle.
Streaks of light were already crossing out the dark sky and illuminating it Down was already approaching us fast.
And in the soft light of the day, the castle locked even more ethereal. I had gone inside the castle just once, but that time I had been too flustered by what the King would decide about me.
Now, I realized the castle was just the kind every girl would fantasize about. It seemed even more beautiful than before.
And I felt my emotions and senses were heightened too. I caught a whiff of mint and pine and pressed my face into Killian’s chest even more.
The scent was maddening and suddenly I wanted more of it. So, even though my hands were trembling and knees shaking, I grabbed him by the scruff of his collar and inhaled deeply.
“Easy there, my queen”
