Chapter 58

I stared at him in disbelief, part of me waiting for him
Was he really stating the truth?
What do you mean?”
I asked even though I had perfectly heard him.
lo
start smiling and say that it was a joke. But he continued to stare at me with a stoic expression.
“Just like I said. If we don’t find a cure soon, we are going to die, every last one of us. King Aecidus‘ offsprings can’t have kids or carry forward the legacy until the curse is broken.”
That brought forth more questions than answers.
“But your father, King Aecidus, birthed all of you!”
Killian gave me a sad smile.
“He did. Only because he is the last living Lycan who can.”
Huh?
“Wait, you mean you are…vampires?”
I asked, unable to ask him if he will be never able to bear children.
‘Technically, no, we don’t drink blood. But King Aecidus‘ offsprings can’t get a female pregnant. The curse…it ensures that wont happen.”
That was a shocker.
My mouth fell open again.
Now, some part of it began to make sense. Why King Aecidus was so desperate to birth as many kids as possible, why he had a huge harem and why he
had sent all his kids to scout for the Blessed one.
And why the King was so hellbent on ensuring, I awakened my magic as soon as possible.
But Killian was sterile? That was a shocker.
All of his siblings were, if that was true. Could he never be a father? Though I was more than happy to think that Martin and Fabian wouldn’t.
No child deserved to be raised by fathers like them.
But Killian….despite his flaws, he was a good person at heart. I belichat with such firmness, I was surprised how I could be so sure of it.
“So….undoing this curse will make you fit to be a parent?” I asked, still trying to wrap my head around this bizarre curse.
Who went into such detail over someone who had not even hurt you personally? As per Killian’s words, the lycans hadn’t done anything to the witch but the werewolves. Then why would she be hellbent on wiping them off as if she had a personal vendetta against them?
Was there something Killian wasn’t telling me? How many more secrets were there in his life and story?
Killian was looking through a few books spread across one of the several tables placed in the library.
“Answer me!” I demanded when he still appeared to ignore me.

He looked up at me again and answered, “I am not sure, but we think breaking the curse will restore everything to what it used to be like earlier. That is our best guess.”
That only made me feel slightly appalled.
“Are you saying that I was dragged here just on your best guess?”
Killian flipped a page in the book and replied. “No, I brought you here as per the King’s orders. And he has asked me to help you awaken your magic..
“I dont have any, I told you,” I said irritably.
Killian flipped another page and replied, “That is because you have not tried hard enough. I believe you can try to awaken your magic with some push in the right direction.”
I didn’t care about their kingdom or the curse.
“Please, Killian. I want to go home. This is not my fight or my people.”
At that, his face hardened.
“And those people back at the Bureau are? They were literally going to kill you, or have you forgotten that?”
I hadn’t.
“But that does not mean I stay here for the rest of my life. If not the Bureau, I can go back to another city and start over. But I don’t belong here.”
I tried to explain him.
“You do. You have always belonged with me.”
What was that supposed to mean?
I let out an exasperated sigh. The night was getting darker by the minute, and Killian didn’t seem sleepy in the slightest.
“How can you be so sure of that?” I asked, just to keep him talking. I had nowhere else to be either way.
Killian only said in a clipped tone. “I just know”
That explained nothing.
I grumbled and looked around, thinking what to say to him next so that he would just let me go. The library was beautiful, no doubt, but I felt like I was a prisoner in this unknown land.
I would appreciate the castle and its beauty if I were brought here of my own will.
“If you dont tell me, I will find a way to leave myself. The kingdom can’t be that big.” I muttered aloud.
and exit.
I had started that map a few days back, I could still try to figure out the ways of
Killian seemed to be done reading the book and closed it before crossing his
hands behind his back.
“The castle is surrounded by the huge séa on one side and the Forbidden Forest on the other, as you must have noticed. So you are free to try swimming through the ocean or walking through the forest if you wish.”
I blinked in surprise.
“Are you saying those are the only two ways of coming in and out of this place?”
He shook his head.
