Chapter 61
Valencia
A knock on the door woke me up well into the afternoon on the next day.
“Lady Valencia,” Mary’s voice greeted me.
I had fallen asleep on the study chair, and my neck and back felt a little stiff after waking up.
My hand went to my neck, and I rubbed it as Mary began dusting the already clean room.
“Do you need a massage?” She asked, and I instantly replied positively.
Her soft hands began kneading my muscles, and the stiffness seemed to lessen immediately.
“Aah, right there,” I said as she pressed on the spot that had been aching and I turned my head from one side to the other to feel the massage.
“Your hands work like magic,” I said as she continued kneading and pressing on different spots as I indicated.
Mary smiled and continued while I let my eyes flutter shut.
Not even a second later, I heard a voice say.
“Oh, glad I didn’t walk into some private moment.”
My eyes opened to see a familiar looking man standing in front of me. Mary immediately pulled back and tried to disappear behind the curtains while! only looked at the man who called himself Sir Nicholas.
The same man who had been fucking Maelyn last night was now in front of me. He had been furious and angry yesterday, but today he was in a cheerful
mood.
“Hello Lady Valencia,” He greeted me, but I didn’t want to even look at his face. When I didn’t reply he added, “The door to the youngest prince’s quarters was open, so I stepped inside to look for him. I wasn’t aware you had moved in.”
That last line sounded more like a question than a statement. And I didn’t bother answering him yet again.
He waited for a response before taking a step ahead and continuing.
“I understand the reason for your silence. I wish to apologize for lat evening. I hope you would be willing to put the past behind us and would like to take this moment to apologize to you.”
Mary made a non committal sound that sounded like a grunt. Something told me she didn’t like being in the same room as him either.
“You mean to say the part where I found you and Mael…” I began, but he immediately cut me off.
“Yes, the part that all began as a misunderstanding. I mistook you for a maid and it was not well of me to treat you like one.”
He said, and Mary bowed to me. “I will return later, my lady”
She excused herself and didn’t bother acknowledging him before walking right past him and hurrying outside the door.
If he was angered by her behavior, he didn’t show.
“Do you mean to say that the behavior you displayed yesterday is fit for the maids?”
Sir Nicholas blinked as if trying to understand what I was implying and shook his head.

“No, that is not what I meant.”
He had been leaning forward a little but saw that I wasn’t too eager, so straightened his back.
“I am a respectable member of the royal court, and one of the courtiers that are in the King’s inner circle. I would never do anything to harm my reputation and that of King Aecidus‘ court.”
Yeah, except for fucking his future daughter in law.
I didn’t say that out loud, but I hoped my expressions conveyed it all the

Move ahead?
What was he hinting at?
“I dont quite understand,” I finally said, and he took a breath of relief.
“Oh wonderful! You are finally talking again. I thought you were not going to utter a word at all.”
He laughed at his lame joke, but I wasn’t inclined to join him.
His smile disappeared, and he waved a scroll in his hand to show me and asked.
“Any idea when Prince Killian might return?”
I shrugged in response.
“I see. Then, as you have been honored with the title of a Lady, I believe I can hand this over to you.”
I tried not to lean back as he approached me.
“What is it?” I asked.
“An invitation to the royal court on behalf of me.”
I raised an eyebrow and took it from him. It read an excerpt that mentioned I was invited to the court.
I closed the scroll and said. “Thanks, but I don’t want a royal feast.”
Sir Nicholas explained.
“You dont understand, Lady Valencia. The royal court has a large say in most of the kingdom’s decisions, and no commoner can get an entry into the court unless the King or one of the members of the court invites him. This is the highest honor I can give you to show my respect to you.”
Respect? He wanted me beaten and thrown out just last night.
