Chapter 112
At this point, Lauren wasn’t just a stranger in Arielle’s and Adrian’s eyes anymore. She was a bad
woman.
Louie took a seat and said, “Alright. I’ll keep trying Rhea’s number for you. Don’t panic. But if I can’t reach her by 8:00 pm, I’m calling the cops, okay?”
As he dialed, he asked, “Is Lauren the bad woman you mentioned?”
The twins nodded in perfect unison.
“She hit Adrian and then denied it. And Dad thinks we’re lying,” Arielle said, her voice tight with frustration and worry for Adrian.
Adrian hugged her. “Arielle, I’m fine. Don’t be sad, okay?”
The sight of the two of them like that tugged at Louie’s heartstrings. He thought that Carter really was a piece of work.
Half an hour later, Rhea still hadn’t picked up.
Left with no other choice, Louie bit the bullet and called George. The call went through.
“Hello?”
“Mr. Snider, it’s me!” Louie blurted.
“Mr. Scott?”
“Yes, yes. I’ve got an urgent matter and was hoping you could help me out.”
George didn’t mind. “What is it?”
“I can’t get in touch with Ms. Ravelle. I can’t get through to her phone, so I wanted to ask if you know where she is right now.”
George’s voice was calm as he asked, “What do you need her for?”
“Her two kids came to me, insisting on finding her. They said that they were bullied, and Carter didn’t care.” Louie was very good at making Carter sound worse than he was.
On the other end of the line, George glanced at the woman who was sipping her soup while watching a cartoon on her digital tablet.
“Rhea,” he called out.
She turned around. Bathed in light, her cheeks were tinged red, and her eyes carried a gentle glow.

She replied lazily, “Yeah?”
George shifted his gaze slightly. “The twins you raised ran away from home and went to see Mr. Scott. They’re looking for you.”
Ran away from home?
Rhea instinctively glanced out the window into the dark night.
“Bring them here,” she said at once. If she sent them straight back home, it would break their hearts. She couldn’t do that.
George spoke into the phone. “I’ll send someone to get them.‘
“Perfect, thanks!” Louie said.
40 minutes later, Louie arrived with the kids in tow.
He didn’t dare let them out of his sight. If anything happened to them, he would be finished. After all, Rhea was still their legal mother on paper.
“Here they are. I’ll head back now,” Louie said, not even glancing at Rhea and George.
“I’m sorry for the trouble, Mr. Scott,” Rhea said as the kids clung to her.
“It’s no trouble at all.”
Suddenly, George called after Louie.
Louie turned around. “Yes, Mr. Snider?”
George took a drag from his cigarette. “Draventh Second Hospital is looking to work with companies from other cities. Are you interested, Mr. Scott?”
“I…” Louie’s eyes lit up. “I’d love to! Thank you, Mr. Snider!”
“It’s nothing.”
Louie understood that this was a thank–you gift for sending the kids here.
He left with a smile. Since he had accepted George’s offer, he had to keep his mouth tightly shut.
If Carter was going to be so careless with his kids, Louie saw no reason to tell him anything. He would simply let him look everywhere.
