Chapter 117
Rhea looked up. “Is that really necessary?”
George sat back, smoking and watching them as if it were a theater performance.

Carter’s gaze was fixed on Rhea. Her eyes were calm, completely devoid of the love she once felt for
him.
At that moment, memories of the past years flashed through his mind. Their small family had been so happy. There had never been any fights.
When he saw Rhea with the kids and George earlier, the anger and sense of unfairness in his chest suddenly made him understand her feelings. He figured that must have been how she felt watching him with Lauren take care of the children.
Carter suddenly reached out to grab Rhea’s hand. His gaze seemed to stretch across time, back to the morning they had first met.
“Come home and rest. I’ll take care of you. That’s my duty. Once you’re better, you can go wherever you want.” Even if it meant after the divorce.
Rhea was surprised by his words and attitude.
Just a couple of days ago, he had been sharp and unforgiving. She wondered why he had suddenly changed. His constant shifts left Rhea unable to trust him.
“It’s fine. I can rest here,” she said.
Carter frowned. “Just see it as spending time with the kids.”
Lauren bit her lip. “Yeah, Rhea. You’re not well. Come home with us.”
George flicked ash from his cigarette and suddenly smirked. “Some people always seem to know the perfect moment to open their mouths and annoy everyone.”
Carter glanced at him and snapped, “Mr. Snider, there’s no need to target a woman.‘
George stood, putting one hand in his pocket. “Targeting you works too.”
If Snider Group really decided to make things difficult for Carter, there would be nothing he could do to stop them.
Rhea shifted slightly. “I’ll visit the kids this weekend. You should leave now.”
She couldn’t go back to that home. Not while Lauren was there.
Carter seemed to sense her thoughts. He turned to Lauren. “You and your grandma should go back to

your home today. The kids have had a long day. They need some quiet, too.”
Lauren froze. She couldn’t believe that they were expected to leave once Rhea returned. She gritted her teeth but could only smile. “Sure. I’ll check out the new place you said you’d get me tomorrow- the one with a kids‘ room.”
. Rhea frowned and said, “Forget it.” She didn’t want to get involved in this messy relationship. “I’ll
come see you during your break,” she told the children.
The twins nodded obediently.
After watching them leave, Rhea closed the door.
The room fell silent.
“Are you really letting that woman accept the house Carter gave her?” George asked.
Rhea looked up and smiled faintly. “I don’t want Carter’s assets, but upon divorce, I have the right to have Lauren return all the gifts.”
The fruits of her hard work weren’t Lauren’s to enjoy for free. Carter had already given her a house.
Rhea’s phone buzzed. It seemed that George had sent her a number. She looked at him in confusion.
“This person specializes in debt collections,” he said.
