Chapter 151
Half an hour later, Carter and Lauren arrived at a small private hospital.
Lauren said, “I’ll head inside myself. The patients here are all women, so it’d be inconvenient for you
to be with me.”
“Will you be okay on your own?” Carter asked, worried.
“Yeah. Hurry up and go check on the kids before coming back to me.” Lauren was ashen. She looked genuinely unwell.
Carter didn’t suspect anything. He told Glen to turn the car around so he could head to the hospital where Arielle and Adrian were.
“Lauren?” The director of the hospital, Holly Sanders, was in her early 40s. Her face showed signs of cosmetic work. She was happy to see Lauren.
Lauren quickly shut the door. “Holly, I need your help with something.”
Holly gave her a suspicious look. “Do you need me to introduce you to more wealthy men—”
“No!” Lauren cut her off. She leaned forward and whispered, “I need you to…”
An hour later, Carter returned to the private hospital Lauren was at after picking up Arielle and Adrian, who looked tired. The kids stayed in the car while Glen watched them.
“Are you Mr. Jamison?” Holly, with her doctor’s coat on, waited for Carter.
“Yes, I am. Where’s Lauren?”
Holly looked solemn. “I’m sorry to inform you that she had a miscarriage. A pregnancy is always unstable in the early stages. How could she have had so much alcohol?”
“A miscarriage?” Carter was stunned. It seemed that Lauren really had gotten pregnant.
They weren’t even aware of it, yet she’d already lost the baby!
Holly’s expression turned reproachful. “As her husband, you should’ve protected her. She’s in there, and she’s not doing too well. You should check on her.”
Carter headed into the room, still reeling from the news. Lauren lay on the hospital bed with her back to the door. Her shoulders trembled slightly, and she was hooked to an IV drip.
“Lauren…” The guilt was apparent in Carter’s voice. He’d failed to protect her and their innocent baby.

“I didn’t manage to protect our child, Carter…” Tears streamed down Lauren’s face. She looked fragile and haggard.
Carter approached her and wrapped his arms around her as he stood by the bed. “I’m sorry. It’s all my fault. If I’d known you were pregnant, I would never…
He would never have brought her to Draventh! To be accurate, he would’ve done a better job of keeping Lauren safe if he’d known Rhea was also in the city.
Lauren shook her head as she continued to weep. “It’s not your fault, and you’re not to blame. It’s my fault. I didn’t even know we had a baby. It could’ve grown up with Arielle and Adrian if I’d kept it safe. Imagine how happy we would’ve been…”
Her words made Carter’s emotions swirl. Then, his hatred for Rhea deepened.
“If I’d known this would happen, I would’ve apologized to Rhea and done anything to make her friends let me off the hook. I…” Sweat beaded on Lauren’s forehead, making her look even more pitiful.
Carter tightened his hold on her. Rhea had made him lose two children in such a short time! He would remember this, along with the humiliation he’d suffered that night! 1
“Dry your tears, alright? Lie down so you can get all the rest you need.” He helped Lauren back onto
the bed.
