Chapter 188
Rhea had said everything she needed to yesterday.
Thinking of that, Carter immediately headed home. On the way, he had Glen call the kids‘ school to excuse them and bring them back home.
When he got home, the kids weren’t back yet. Carter paced around anxiously.
Meanwhile, Lauren’s calls kept coming. Irritated, he finally answered. “What’s wrong?”
Hearing the sharpness in his voice, Lauren paused. “Carter, where are you? Something came up at the hospital. I can’t handle it alone.”
She wanted him to rush over and pick her up.
Carter couldn’t be bothered with such a trivial matter. “Hire a caregiver yourself. Ask the doctors or the nurses if you need anything.”
“I…” Lauren hesitated. “They want me to rest at home. They say that the beds are full.”
“Call Peter and have him take you home.” Carter made the arrangements. He wasn’t in the mood to worry about Lauren’s injury.
He had completely forgotten that just yesterday, he had felt guilty that Lauren had gotten hurt
because of him.
Selfishness was Carter’s true nature. Whenever his interests were threatened, he cared only for himself. Everyone else had to step aside, even his kids.
Just then, the twins arrived home. Carter quickly hung up on Lauren and walked over to them.” Arielle, Adrian.”
“Dad, what’s wrong?” Arielle asked.
Carter led them to the living room and, for the first time, gently helped them remove their backpacks.
Arielle and Adrian were both surprised.
Carter started, “Actually, something happened at my company, and I need your mom to come home, so the four of us can be together. Someone is slandering me.”
“Slandering?” Arielle frowned. “Like saying bad things about you?”
“Yes,” Carter said. “So, I need you guys to help me call your mom.”
Adrian replied bluntly, “But she’s working now. She’s busy.”

They had agreed with Rhea that they wouldn’t disturb her when she was working and would only contact her during breaks.
Carter was so furious that he spoke without restraint. “She doesn’t even have a job! She’s just too busy flirting with other men!”
“What?” Arielle gasped.
Carter hurriedly tried to calm himself. “Arielle, Adrian, just call her, okay?”
“But we don’t have a reason to call her,” Arielle whispered, lowering her head. “You’re getting a divorce.”
She was mature for her age and understood many things. Divorce meant that they couldn’t live together anymore.
Fortunately, Rhea still cared for them, and they could still see her.
After some thought, Carter said anxiously, “Just tell her you’re not feeling well. She’ll come back for sure.”
