Rhea’s expression instantly darkened. “You guys keep eating. I’ll step out for a while.”

Once she left, Liam set down his cutlery and took a sip of whiskey. His expression visibly hardened.

Charlie, a major general from the founding era, exuded an even deadlier presence. He couldn’t believe Carter dared harass them at their own doorstep. It seemed that Carter really had no respect

for their family.

Outside the estate, Carter had circled around for over an hour trying to find the Ravelle residence.

After stepping out of the car and seeing the sprawling estate, he felt a sting of defeat.

Most people would feel a pang of shame at that moment, but Carter didn’t. His mind only registered one thought–Rhea had this powerful family backing her, yet she never mentioned it to him.

Arielle and Adrian shivered in the cold night air.

Draventh was in the north, which was much colder than Colburn. Yet, Carter hadn’t bothered to put

coats on the kids.

Rhea stepped out through the ornate front doors. “Why are you dressed so lightly?”

Being in the car kept them warm, but now that they were outside, they were freezing.

Rhea said, “Go back to the car, quickly.”

The kids obeyed without complaint.

“Rhea, you’re the only one who can help Jamison Group now. I’m begging you. If it’s my fault that your family has issues with me, I’m willing to apologize. If not for me, please do it for the kids. They’re suffering like this because of us.”

Rhea shot back, “Did I ask you to bring them here? Don’t blame your mistakes on me. Also, my family doesn’t need your apology. Leave now, or I’ll call the police.”

“I’m your legal husband. What’s wrong with me being here?” Carter’s gaze had changed. He smiled and said, “I know you don’t want your parents to see us like this. But Rhea, what if I stayed here overnight? Do you think the people in Draventh will know about us tomorrow?”

When that happened, the Ravelle family would end up under scrutiny.

His shamelessness had shocked Rhea to her core. He was actually using her family’s reputation to pressure her into helping.

“They say that people in Draventh care a lot about children’s upbringing. As the kids‘ mother on paper, you can’t just let them sit outside all night, can you?”
