Every time Peter’s gaze landed on Lauren’s injured hand, it made him feel uneasy.
He looked away and walked ahead. “Carter needs Rhea’s help. Jamison Group ran into some trouble, and Rhea’s the only one who can sort it out. Let’s switch to a private hospital. Your surgery can’t wait.

That kind of exclusivity was hard to swallow.
Lauren didn’t even care about her injury anymore. She could only wonder what had happened with Carter that only Rhea could fix.
Peter and Lauren arrived at a private hospital in a small city near Draventh.
Peter covered the surgery costs upfront. By the afternoon, Lauren was wheeled into the operating
room.
Her ankle surgery had already been delayed for two days. It couldn’t be delayed any longer.
The private hospital was unaware of David’s explicit restrictions, and the doctor’s experience was
limited.
By evening, Lauren emerged from surgery. The doctor said, “You might feel some discomfort when walking from now on. Take it slow.”
Lauren was worried. “Will I end up limping?”
“You won’t if you don’t walk too quickly. Your injury was severe, and you’ve delayed the surgery for two days. You’re really tough.”
Earlier at the orthopedic hospital, she had taken painkillers just to wait for David, thinking he would come to help with her surgery. But he never came.
Lying on the bed, Lauren cried. “If Rhea had helped me get in touch with Professor Ravelle, I might not have been at risk of ending up with a limp.”
She pinned her misfortune on Rhea.
Shocked, Peter instinctively asked, “Why do you expect Rhea to help you? You two don’t exactly get along well.”
Lauren looked incredulous. “Peter, why are you defending Rhea? I’m just—”
Peter stood up. “Carter’s already in Draventh. I don’t know if he’ll come here, but I have to go.”

Seeing another side of Lauren now, Peter felt like every single word she said was a dig at Rhea. He couldn’t stand it.
Once outside the hospital, he couldn’t help but call Aiden. “Aiden.”
“What’s up?” Aiden was resting.
“I found out something,” Peter said.
Aiden waited.
Hesitantly, Peter continued, “I found out that the Lauren now is not the Lauren I used to know. She-

Aiden suddenly laughed. “You’ve only just realized that?”
“What do you mean?”
Aiden said, “Ever since she showed up at Carter’s celebration party, her intentions were clear. Only a fool like you could still think that she’s innocent. If she’s innocent, then what about Rhea?”
Peter was speechless.
He had always assumed that Rhea was bullying Lauren and taking over her life. But looking back now, it was Lauren who was disrupting Rhea’s world.
