The sight of Adrian’s bleeding head and twisted legs had caused Arielle to wail uncontrollably. Amelia had to soothe her for a long time before she calmed a little.
Carter held Arielle tightly. “It’s okay, it’s okay. I’ll make sure Adrian’s fine. Don’t cry, okay?”
She nodded as tears streamed down her face, looking utterly pitiful. “But… But Adrian’s not waking
up…”
“He will. The doctor has already scheduled surgery for him.”
According to Terrance, Adrian was out of immediate danger, but the intracranial bleeding needed urgent treatment. Then, his fractured legs would have to be addressed.
After comforting Arielle, Carter went to check in with Terrance.
“The orthopedic surgery can take place the day after the intracranial hemorrhage surgery. The sooner we repair the fractures, the better,” Terrance explained.
Carter nodded. “Okay, thank you.”
“It’s my duty.”
With that, Terrance left to prepare for the surgery.
Carter signed a stack of forms. His hand nearly shook from the effort.
By the time he finished, an hour had already passed. He went to the private lounge to wait.
“Carter, don’t worry. Adrian will be fine. I had Scarlett make this for you. Eat a little,” Lauren said. softly, holding a thermal container.
Carter turned to her slightly, too tired to shout. His tone was calm but tinged with confusion. ” Lauren, do you think I can eat at a time like this?”
“But what will the kids do if you collapse? You’re their only father. They need you to be well to be their pillar of strength. Besides, you haven’t eaten all morning.”
Pillar of strength?
That wasn’t true. He wasn’t the kids‘ only pillar of strength. There was someone else they trusted
more.
Carter suddenly recalled something. “I’ll make a call.”
Lauren stayed behind, holding the container, and heard Carter call out “Rhea” after making that phone call.

She wondered why he was calling Rhea now.
Lauren couldn’t resist following him, keeping just a corner’s distance between them.

After a long pause, she faintly heard him say, “Thank you, Rhea. I’ll never forget this favor. Arielle and I will wait for you at the hospital.”
Lauren gripped the thermal container tightly.
Was Rhea coming to the hospital?
When Carter returned, Lauren didn’t ask him anything. Instead, she said, “I’ll head back and pack some things Adrian might need.”
Carter didn’t respond. His eyes were fixed on the operating room.
Lauren left silently but didn’t go home. She called Scarlett to prepare the items to be delivered to the hospital.
She waited outside the hospital, watching both the underground parking lot and the main entrance.
