Chapter 270
Carter’s throat moved with rapid breaths. His face was pale and tense.
Glen helped him into the car.
“Straight to Draventh,” Carter firmly instructed.
Upon hearing that, Lauren quickly followed, ready to go with him.
The car shot off.
Carter’s mind was a whirlwind. Adrian had never been one to fight with classmates, so why…
He couldn’t think of a reason and could only urge Glen, “Drive faster!”
Glen almost floored the accelerator.
Lauren sat beside Carter, glancing around subtly and wondering where the divorce certificate was. Neither Carter nor Glen had a bag, so where could they have put it?
She said quietly, “Carter, I haven’t even seen a divorce certificate. Can you show me what it looks like?”
“Stop asking for the divorce certificate! Is that all you care about now?” Carter suddenly turned to scold her, his eyes terrifyingly sharp.
Lauren assumed that he was upset about something Rhea had said at the courthouse. She tried to soothe him. “Carter, don’t let her words get to you. We’ll be fine. But don’t take it out on me. I’ve been waiting outside the whole time. I…”
By the end of her sentence, her expression was full of hurt. She seemed accustomed to relying on this tactic to soften Carter’s heart and win his affection.
Carter’s eyes were bloodshot. “Tell me, did Ms. Lowe call you?”
Lauren’s breath hitched. She briefly forgot how to lie. “What?”
“Adrian’s hurt! He’s in critical condition! Ms. Lowe called you! Why didn’t you tell me?” Carter snapped.
Lauren’s body shivered. Her eyes immediately filled with worry and fear. “Critical condition? Ms. Lowe did call, but she only said that we should go to the hospital. She didn’t say it was this serious! I thought it was just a minor fight between the kids. I didn’t want to distract you from your important matters. That’s why-”
“What important matter?” Carter ground his teeth. “My children are more important!”

Lauren was startled. “Carter, don’t panic. I’m sure that Adrian will be okay.”
Carter wasn’t in the mood to argue and kept urging Glen to speed up.
On the way, he stayed in touch with Adrian’s doctor, Terrance Shepard, by phone, assuring him that he would arrive soon and asking him to prepare for the surgery first.
“Who did you say?” Carter’s voice trembled.
“Professor David Ravelle.”
Terrance explained, “Adrian is currently in a stable condition, but surgery is necessary. There’s confirmed intracranial bleeding. His legs are also severely injured. If you want to save them, Professor Ravelle is your best choice. His expertise in pediatric orthopedics is exceptional.”
Adrian had fallen, hitting his head and suffering multiple fractures, with his legs the most severely injured.
David again…
Carter couldn’t bear the thought that his son might be disabled in the future. He was already suffering so much in the wheelchair now. Adrian was only six…
Carter said, “I’ll do my best to get Professor Ravelle. Please schedule the surgery as soon as possible. I’ll be there within two hours!”
