Chapter 299
“Nathan.” Rhea hurried to find Nathan.
In the dining room, she saw Liam. “Dad.”
“Have you eaten?” Liam called her over.
Rhea had no appetite. “Dad, the news…”
Liam gestured for her to calm down. “It was indeed Carter who had people publicize it extensively. But don’t worry. This actually saved me the trouble of pushing it through myself.”
Carter’s move played perfectly into Liam’s plan.
In the days that followed, whenever someone asked about the news on public occasions, Liam didn’t hesitate to admit it. He openly confirmed that Carter was indeed his son–in–law and that he valued him highly.
This immediately made many previously indifferent business owners turn to fawn over Carter. Even those in Draventh who had never met him in person began to show up at the hospital.
Watching them fuss over Adrian while flattering him, Carter quickly understood what was going on.
At that moment, he felt a deep sense of pride.
So this was the benefit of having a powerful backer. Just one word from Liam had elevated Carter’s
status in Draventh.
Endless partnership offers followed. When he said that he had no time, those people would come to the hospital in person to discuss partnership details with him.
In just four days, Jamison Group had completely established its reputation in Draventh.
As Carter looked at the pile of contracts before him, his eyes shone. “So this is the power of the Ravelle family?”
He had to admit that he loved this feeling of success.
He was determined to hold on to this father–in–law of his.
Carter’s face flushed with excitement. “Go prepare some gifts. I’m going to visit my father–in–law.”
It turned out that as long as he kept Rhea and Liam happy, he could rise to the top in Draventh.
In the past, he had scorned those who relied on power and connections to succeed. But now that he had tasted it, he felt utterly satisfied.

The next day, Carter prepared to take Adrian home before visiting Liam. But just as he stepped out of the hospital, he received an urgent call from Sharon.
“Carter!” Sharon sounded panicked.
Carter frowned.
Having been flattered so much recently, hearing Sharon call him by his first name made him slightly annoyed, but he didn’t show it. “What is it?”
Sharon said urgently, “Lauren’s cancer has relapsed!”
Lauren’s cancer relapsed?
Carter’s pupils constricted. “What did you say? Where is she?”
Glen’s eyes flickered.
“At the oncology hospital,” Sharon replied. “You should come see her. It’s a complicated situation.”
After hanging up, Carter had Glen take Adrian home while he headed to the oncology hospital.
Glen hesitated. “Mr. Jamison.”
Carter turned impatiently. “What?”
“Ms. Thayer’s cancer… recurred so suddenly. There was no warning at all. Could it be a misdiagnosis?
Glen hinted subtly.
